Job Title : Safety Engineering Specialist - IntermediateDuties : To perform hazard identification and hazard analysis studies.
To define technical and functional safety requirements for train control systems.To analyze and evaluate design compliance with safety requirements and safety principles.
To conduct safety analyses and verify that the train control systems are safe.To record hazards, assess safety risks, review hazard mitigation, evaluate the design and verification and validation evidence, and track hazards throughout close-out process.
Key Tasks : Evaluate the compliance of systems and subsystems to safety requirements by reviewing technical specifications, design changes (system, hardware and software), and recommend design alternatives, where appropriate, to ensure safety.
Provide evaluations and recommendations with respect to safety in formal design reviews.Define safety requirements by evaluating railway operational hazards that could be caused by the train control system.
Fault Tree Analysis (FTA);Functional Hazard Analysis (FnHA);Functional Safety Analysis (FnSA); andHazard Identification (HAZID) and Hazard Operability (HAZOP) Studies.
andReview of software integration, module and unit test procedures and test coverage.Ensure that safety requirements are met by reviewing system, hardware and software design.
Safety Hazard; Pending Hazard, and carry out the safety review and analysis of recommended solution.Ensure that safety can be verified by testing and that test procedures provide sufficient coverage of safety requirements, including failure and operational scenarios.
Accountable for performing the work correctly within cost and schedule limits as defined in approved Work PackageReport directly to the Manager RAMS Engineering, take direction from the Project Safety Lead, Group Lead, Senior Safety Specialist, Technical Safety Specialist and Chief Safety Architect, and work closely with other team members, both in Safety team and from other functional teams, to meet project objectives.
Skills : 2-5+ years or experienceA detailed knowledge of system requirements definition / design, safety and risk analysis.
Excellent command of the English language, both written and oral.Computer skills, MS Office; DOORS; FTA Tools.Knowledge of railway systems is an asset.
Knowledge of reliability and safety analysis techniques.Familiar with safety standards (military and / or international safety standards).
Experience with or exposure to safety / mission-critical systems design, and exposure to hazard, fault-tree and failure modes and effects analysis, statistical modeling and analysis of complex software / hardware / human interface systems are assets.
Specific experience : Decision Making And AuthorityWorks with Engineering departments and integrated project team as a team player with the view that others are your customers.
Decides how best to perform the work.Manages and schedules daily / weekly activities within budget and time allowances given.
Participates in engineering activities ensuring the "built-in safety" of communications-based train control systems.Utilizes internationally recognized hazard and safety analysis techniques to develop and follow through the completion of formal proof of safety for specific project applications of products.
