The User Interface Research Group at Autodesk Research is seeking an experienced software engineer with a background in server-side software development, for both web applications and desktop application software.
The team develops prototypes of novel tools and techniques that help people learn and use complex software.
In this role, you will participate in the development of research prototypes using modern server-side and serverless cloud technologies.
As a back-end expert, you will have the opportunity to choose the right software architecture for projects, and to experiment with and promote the use of emerging technologies and practices.
There will also be many opportunities to work with product teams across Autodesk, especially around facilitating the transfer of prototypes into working products.
Build and maintain back-ends for research prototypes : web services, server-side rendering for web applications, SQL databases, recurring processes
Co-ordinate with research scientists and other software developers on the team to estimate and prioritize development tasks
Apply core engineering principles to ensure quality, usability, and performance
Engage with product teams around Autodesk to transfer technology from research prototypes into shipping products
Perform experimental development work with new tools and practices (programming languages, frameworks, cloud services, etc.
and report findings back to the team
Collaborate with interns and co-op students to assist with development tasks and techniques as needed
Minimal travel; there will be opportunities to attend internal conferences through the calendar year
Five years of programming experience in multiple languages (at least two of Python, Node, C#, Java, and Ruby)
Working knowledge of Windows 10, macOS and Linux
Strong familiarity with popular and emerging application development practices (design patterns, SOLID, Hexagonal / Onion architecture)
Professional experience architecting and operating solutions built on AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
Ability to work in a collaborative, innovative, flexible and team-oriented environment
Experience creating REST APIs from the ground up
Experience with SQL and document database products (Any of Postgres, MS SQL Server, MySQL, MongoDB, AWS Redshift)
Experience with bash shell scripting and / or PowerShell
Knowledge and experience with web development frameworks like React or Angular, or desktop application frameworks like WPF and QT
Knowledge or experience with Autodesk products such as Fusion 360, Maya, AutoCAD or Inventor
Experience with Git source control and GitHub
Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
Experience with mobile application development (Android and / or iOS)
Experience with C++, Go, Rust
Knowledge of user interface design concepts
