Reporting to the Sr. Manager Operations & Quality, the Materials Manager is responsible for managing the activities of the production scheduling, materials crib, and to provide process leadership and reporting, driving inventory performance.

The Materials Manager has the following direct reports : Scheduler, Order Processor, Warehouse Supervisor, Shipper, Receiver, and Material Handlers.


  • Effective management of all aspects of the Materials department and regular reporting of key performance indicators and data as directed
  • Management of team members, including : daily work scheduling; training; performance reviews; communication of work instructions and standard practices
  • Direct responsibility for the accuracy of inventory and achievement / maintenance of established standards for minimum inventory safety levels and inventory adjustments and turns
  • Create and maintain efficient, documented processes within the Materials department.
  • Ensure accurate reporting metrics for the department
  • Work closely with all departments, especially with Procurement, Production and Finance
  • Perform inventory counts, variance investigations and other audit activities in support of financial and quality controls.
  • Manage all materials receiving, inventory stocking, and line stocking
  • Implementation of lean principals and continuous improvement initiatives for the department (automation / scanning system)
  • Communication of departmental issues related to product or process using established reporting procedures, and implementation of changes as approved
  • Identification of departmental goals and monitor / report performance to attainment
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly working environment
  • Customer and supplier interface as required / directed
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of employees
  • Other duties as directed.
  • Qualifications

  • Education : University Degree in Business or Engineering, CPP / CPM / CPIM / APICS are all a plus.
  • Experience & Skills :
  • Minimum of 5-10 yrs. materials experience working with domestic / global manufacturers and distributors
  • Experience managing a wide range of commodities
  • Prefer experience in the OE / Tier 1 Automotive and Class 6-8 heavy truck markets.
