The Systems & Safety Analysis Branch is responsible for the development and application of computer codes and analysis tools in support of design and safety analysis of current and advanced nuclear reactors.

Capabilities in the areas of fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and reactor physics & neutronics modelling and analysis are applied to safety assessments and analysis for design-basis and beyond-design-basis accidents, and severe accident scenarios.

The branch also develops advanced reactor concepts and technologies.

A Scientific Modeller is needed to contribute to the development and qualification of computer codes and analysis tools in support of design and safety analysis of current and advanced nuclear reactors.


Reporting to the Manager of Systems & Safety Analysis Branch, the incumbent has the following responsibilities :

Contribute to the development and qualification of thermalhydraulics codes and analysis tools for the design and safety analysis of existing and advanced nuclear reactors, new fuel cycles, and other applications.

Contribute to the development of code coupling methodology in coupling thermalhydraulics codes with other codes (e.g., reactor physics, fuel performance) for high-fidelity, multi-scale / multi-physics simulations.

Manage Federal Science & Technology (FST) / COG / commercial projects, work packages, or tasks on an as-required basis, ensuring deliverables and milestones are achieved on time and on budget.


An advanced degree (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) in Engineering (e.g., Nuclear / Mechanical / Chemical / Industrial or similar) or Science from a university of recognized standing.

Strong background in numerical methods, single- and two-phase fluid flow and heat transfer.

At least two years of experience in reactor thermalhydraulics, numerical modelling, code development and code qualification.

Experience in development of system and / or sub-channel thermalhydraulics codes (e.g., CATHENA, RELAP5-3D, TRACE, ASSERT, COBRA-TF) is required.

Experience in development of codes and analysis tools for CANDU and / or advanced reactors (e.g., Small Modular Reactors) is desirable.

A proven track record in the publication of technical papers and / or reports.

Experience in the use of workstations and microcomputers and associated operating systems (Windows, Linux, etc.) and software applications (e.g., MS-Office).

Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.
