Community Development Coordinator

1 Year Maternity Leave Contract (35 hours week)

General Responsibilities :

The Community Development Coordinator provides assistance, guidance, and support to the Houselink participants in identifying its own group needs and collective issues and in developing a community-based self-sufficiency in meeting those needs.

The Coordinator facilitates and supports grass roots participant involvement at Houselink, through activities determined by participants such as art exhibits, workshops, support civic engagement, the Link newsletter, and discussion groups.

Skill Knowledge and Ability Required :

The position requires an individual who has :

  • Strong verbal, listening and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal, group work and leadership skills
  • Strong organizational and time management
  • Strong research skills
  • Skills in budget development and monitoring
  • Knowledge of housing, homelessness, income support and poverty issues, as well
  • as other issues affecting low income consumer survivors

  • Experience in electronic record keeping, and file maintenance and data collection
  • Experience preparing and facilitating workshops
  • Experience in community development and networking
  • Knowledge of diverse cultural issues as they relate to the participants
  • Ability to share information and transfer knowledge effectively
  • Knowledge of Government structure and decision making
  • Experience in advocacy, lobbying, social activism and working with grass-roots movements as well
  • as developing and leading advocacy campaigns

  • Strong computer skills including email, word processing and the Internet
  • Hourly rate is $27.23 / hour. This is a bargaining unit position and is governed by the terms of the Collective Agreement.

    Please note that the regular work schedule for this position will includes some Saturdays.

    Job offers are contingent upon the successful completion of a Criminal Records Check. Houselink is committed to the hiring of staff with lived experience with mental health challenges.
