The Earthworks Field Engineer (EIT) provides technical engineering support to personnel to ensure construction activities comply with all engineering standards, codes, specifications, and drawings.
They are responsible for planning, liaising with designers, sub-contractors, quantity tracking, and reporting for all related work.
Provide construction discipline support to other departments such as Quality, Safety, and Environmental, in addition to daily construction reporting, and assisting Superintendents with site management.
Responsibilities
Daily responsibility to ensure safety, quality, and environmental standards are being followed and maintained through each phase of Earthworks construction
Preparation of construction work plans and look-ahead schedules for Earthworks
Establish a thorough knowledge of plans and specifications, work schedules, production targets and procedures pertaining to changes, extra work, and claims and costing
Supervise construction and keep crews working as per construction work plans
Completion of quantity take-offs and purchase requisitions for Earthworks related materials
Provide process planning and project management services for Earthworks construction
Lead cross functional teams on Earthworks projects
Provide concept engineering and offer alternatives for Earthworks construction
Provide technical direction to Earthworks suppliers and support personnel
Diagnose and correct deficiencies in Earthworks construction design, implementation and operation
Communicate with field supervision and have strong field presence to become included in all Earthworks related activities.
Assist Superintendents in the interpretation of plans and specifications
Ensure build to design drawings and specifications; deviate only with proper approval Aim for zero tolerance and zero defects;
communicate expectations with Field Supervision.
Ensure reoccurring quality issues are being reviewed and establishing a strategy to reduce and eliminate
Responsible for the continuous engagement of the craft in quality and the ensuring all general foreman and foreman are communicating that message
Liaise with the Superintendents as and when required to ensure work is not performed where existing RFIs / WIs / NCRs exist.
Ensure ITPs are being reviewed and followed by the production team to ensure hold points are not ignored

Job Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must possess effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to coordinate the efforts of others to accomplish objectives
Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making abilities
Excellent organizational skills
Ability to work productively with minimal supervision
Demonstrate skills as a productive and collaborative member of a multidisciplinary and multinational team
Thorough knowledge of civil construction engineering including coordination and supervision of civil construction teams
Experience and Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from accredited intuition,
Previous experience on heavy civil construction projects, mass concrete experience will be considered an asset
Working knowledge in AutoCAD / Solid Works / Primavera P6
Proficiency in MS Office
Minimum 4 years’ experience as an engineer on construction sites
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
Please Note : This is a site-based position located at the Site C Dam in Fort St. John, British Columbia and full vaccination status is required per BC Hydro for site access.
Preference will be given to qualified, local candidates. However, we will also consider fly in / out candidates based out of Vancouver, Nanaimo, Kelowna, Calgary, or Edmonton.
Rotational employees are required to work a 14 / 7 rotation; flights and camp accommodations are provided while on shift.
