As an integral member of the BlueCat Training Team, this role creates and maintains external and internal educational material with a focus on video content.
The Instructional Designer is responsible for designing and developing online content, primarily video, but also accompanying exercises, assessment, and reinforcement activities within our Learning Management System.
This role will work closely with other members of the Training Team to develop highly technical and engaging web-based learning experiences, primarily using the Adobe Creative Cloud.
After on boarding, the successful candidate will be able to use our software products at a basic level to help their understanding of product features where appropriate.
While not necessarily highly technical themselves, the successful candidate will be comfortable building educational material on technical topics through research and collaboration with subject matter experts to bring the relevant information to life in a clear and concise manner, knowing when to stay broad and when to go deep.
The team has just begun overhauling and replacing our existing library of content with a micro-learning format, providing the role with an immense amount of opportunity to shape their own success and the success of the program, as well as providing the freedom to express themselves creatively across a variety of technical topics.
Ultimately, we are looking for an effective communicator, a self-starter, and a team player who enjoys creating educational material using the Adobe Creative Cloud on a broad range of technical subjects.
Key Responsibilities :
Work with internal subject matter experts to obtain an in-depth understanding of learning topics to inform content development.
Produce high-quality educational material that meets applicable standards and is appropriate for its intended audience.
Create tutorials of our technical investigation process to help technical personnel support a variety of applications.
Edit or standardize material prepared by other Training Team members.
Review published materials and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of development.
Participate in cross-training sessions with the Training Team to help further professional development across the entire Training Team.
Work in an agile development environment and be able to gather information for a content development assignment from a variety of sources, including Product / Engineering, Customer Success and Field Teams, as well as other varied resources across the company.
Strong technical aptitude and familiarity with the Adobe Creative Cloud, specifically for creating effective educational video content.
This may include After Effects, Premiere, Illustrator, and Photoshop, as well as any other tools which increase workflow velocity or overall content quality.
Proven working experience in designing instructional materials for adult learners
Experience delivering high-quality educational material covering technical and / or abstract concepts
Experience developing video or eLearning content using a fast-paced agile process
Able to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text, pictures, animation, or video
Highly motivated, with the drive to improve existing deliverables, initiate new actions in line with business objectives, and deliver results often under tight deadlines
Able to use strong judgment and decision-making skills in ambiguous situations and recommend appropriate actions
Knowledge of basic networking, Linux, and programming, or an aptitude to learn these technologies
Quick learner with an aptitude for learning new applications
Able to work independently and collaborate effectively as part of a team
