Your opportunity

BDO’s Financial Advisory Services ( FAS ) practice is growing! In our Calgary office, we are currently recruiting for a Financial Analyst, Valuations and Forensics.

The successful candidate will be a university graduate with a degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a similar field who is actively pursuing or willing to pursue their Chartered Business Valuator ( CBV ) designation.

Our role in the FAS group is to provide Business Valuation and Forensics services to internal and external clients across Canada, with this role focusing predominantly on Alberta and Interior B.C.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities :

  • Participate in discussions and meetings with management of the companies involved
  • Analyze company and industry-specific strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats to determine the cash flow risks of the companies involved
  • Participate in the financial modelling used for the valuation
  • Draft detailed valuation reports and presentations to management
  • Together with the engagement team, execute on forensic and litigation support engagements with regards to shareholder disputes, breach of contract, misrepresentations, construction disruption and delay, business interruption, insurance claim loss quantification, oppression remedy, expropriation, intellectual property / patents and other commercial matters
  • Support the development of financial and loss quantification models used by the team to conduct and support our analysis;
  • assist in drafting reports and presentations to clients

  • Conduct industry specific research and other research tasks as directed by the FAS team
  • Develop relationships with BDO's current and prospective clients as well as with other BDO service groups
  • Provide ongoing communication with the team concerning file execution and service area development initiatives
  • Develop an understanding of the business development activities required to support this type of practice (for future career development)
  • Assist in the ongoing training and development of professional staff within the service area.

  • Your experience and education

  • CPA, CA designation (or near-completion)
  • 1 to 3 years relevant experience in audit or accounting
  • Willing to pursue a CBV designation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Exceptional writing skills
  • Proficiency in excel
  • Public accounting experience is considered an asset
