What you’ll do

Reporting to the Director, Marketing & Communications, the Communications Manager is responsible for leading the communications strategy and overseeing media relations.

More specifically, as the Communications Manager you will :

  • Develop and execute content strategy for several of BCCHF’s communication platforms, including monthly e-newsletters, our bi-
  • annual magazine (Shine), the annual report and the Miracle Weekend broadcast

  • Lead the team responsible for content development and ensure it meets all organizational objectives by providing strategic leadership
  • Oversee and / or write a wide range of communication materials including news releases, speaking notes and speeches, articles for Shine magazine, video scripts, etc.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with representatives within the Foundation, hospital, PHSA and research group to aid in content development and successful programs
  • Manage media relations for BCCHF, including writing Foundation news releases, pursuing sources and story leads, proactively pitching newsworthy story ideas and leading issues management as appropriate
  • Develop and maintain strategic media relationships
  • Ensure media requests are assessed and handled in a timely manner
  • Work closely with all members of the Marketing and Communications team to ensure a fully integrated approach that maximizes impact in the most resource efficient manner
  • Provide effective coaching, mentoring and development for your team members to create an environment where they can excel and do their best work
  • What you bring

    You are at the forefront of a rapidly evolving communications profession, and have the ability to execute against traditional approaches with excellence, while embracing next generation tools and techniques.

    You have a demonstrated ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

    In addition, you will bring :

  • Diploma or Degree in Communications or Business Administration
  • Minimum six to eight years of experience in a communications role, with at least two years’ experience managing a team
  • Exceptional writing skills in a wide variety of communication types;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and work calmly under pressure;
  • Gifted in writing and storytelling for a variety of audiences;
  • Demonstrated media results, experience in using a variety of technologies and platforms including online and blogger relations, and content development and management
  • Experience successfully navigating media relations issues
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach and mentor staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, with ability to foster positive working relationships with diverse internal and external individual stakeholders.
