Successful candidates will perform work in the cleaning and minor maintenance of City buildings. These janitorial duties are performed under intermittent supervision and are subject to review by the Arena Maintenance Supervisor and Area Coordinator.
Examples of key responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
Manual cleaning and operation of powered cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, auto-scrubbers and ozone caddy.
Cleaning of community recreation facilities including washrooms, change rooms, public lobby, multi-purpose rooms, office spaces, storage rooms, and staff room.
Taking inventory, ordering, distributing of supplies throughout the facility.
Maintaining oral and written communications with other Building Service Workers, supervisor and other staff.
Identifying maintenance problems and reporting work required.
Ensuring facility is clean and safe for public and staff use.
Opening and closing of facility.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
Ability to apply knowledge of the cleaning methods, materials, tools and equipment used in janitorial work.
Knowledge of routine building and equipment maintenance and minor repair tasks.
Knowledge of WHMIS.
Ability to understand and follow non-complex oral and written instructions.
Ability to communicate and provide written correspondence if needed.
Ability to deal courteously and effectively with co-workers and the public.
Ability to work as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to successfully pass a Police Information Check.
Qualifications and Experience :
Completion of Grade 12 plus successful completion of a recognized Building Service Worker course, and relevant experience.
Completion of Building Service Worker Certificate.
Ice Facility Operator Certificate or Higher is desirable.
Working Conditions :
During regular cleaning duties you may have exposure to dirt, dust and mold. May have occasional exposure to potentially infectious material containing organisms.
