Director - Insurance Claims Management

SNC-Lavalin is seeking a Director to handle its Insurance Claims Management. The candidate shall have at least the (10) years of experience with the handling of insurance claims and will be part of the Insurance Department, reporting to the Vice President, Global Insurance Risk Management.

The Director will be responsible to actively analyze the various claims, together with the Business Units and SNC-Lavalin Legal function to determine applicable insurance coverage, develop strategies of defending the claim, and recommend reserve amounts to be taken on claims.

The incumbent will also have a role in developing and executing SNC-Lavalin’s insurable risk financing strategy. The candidate will prepare quarterly status reports on the development of the claims for our insurance carriers and will provide timely input on claim status to all internal and external stakeholders (e.

g. insurers, corporate finance, audit, brokers, etc.).

Responsibilities :

  • Responsible for the management and handling of all Company’s insurance claims
  • Work in close collaboration with business unit heads, project managers, engineers, and legal department responsible in the claim management and resolution process;
  • Determine applicable insurance policy coverage(s), and ensure timely reporting of claims to the relevant insurers and insurance brokers;
  • Responsible for the development and production of the status reports on the claim development as well as justification for reserve setting;
  • Participate in the development and execution of SNC-Lavalin’s overall insurable risk financing strategy
  • Be aware of insurance coverage trends, major legal precedents with respect to insurance coverage, and policy coverage innovations;
  • Support the rest of the insurance team with any claims related matters
  • Qualifications :

  • University degree, preferably in law, however candidates with degrees in business, finance, accounting, or engineering will also be considered
  • Previous role as a lawyer with experience in insurance coverage, defense of insured professionals, professional liability and / or construction claims loss adjuster, claims manager within a major insurance company, claims advocacy role within a major insurance broker, or other similar experience
  • CIP or CRM qualification (an asset)
  • Strategic and critical thinking with strong analytical skills
  • Capacity to work on many files simultaneously, manage timelines and priorities
  • Strong knowledge of engineering and construction contracts, project execution, commercial issues and project management
  • Knowledgeable of the legal system in Quebec and Canada, with an ability to become familiar with foreign legal systems as required
  • Knowledgeable in the key insurance products available to a global Engineering & Construction business
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong initiative-taking capabilities and appetite for challenging mandates
  • Team player with the ability to work autonomously
  • Capacity to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Very good working knowledge of various office software Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel
  • High integrity
  • Bilingual (French and English)
