Heddle Shipyards' Port Weller Team has an immediate opening for an organized, customer-focused Purchasing Manager! Working closely with Operations and supervising the Purchasing Coordinator, the successful applicant will ensure the effective sourcing, distribution and management of procured materials, equipment and services.
The Purchasing Manager will also develop, document, and improve upon the procurement, inventory / asset management, and shipping / receiving processes.
The Purchasing Manager's responsibilities consist of, but are not limited to :
Sourcing / securing required equipment, materials and / or services;
Strategically sourcing from suppliers based on price, quality, availability, reliability, and technical requirements;
Maintaining effective supplier working relationships;
Negotiating prices, conditions, and service deliverables with suppliers;
Proactively reviewing current systems and procedures, making recommendations and implementing approved changes;
Liaising with Finance, and suppliers to provide information and resolve any discrepancies or issues affecting payment of invoices;
Actively participating in the ISO Quality process for identifying non-conformances and areas for improvement in the Purchasing department.
A relevant undergraduate degree / post-secondary diploma (e.g., business administration, supply chain management, logistics) complemented with a minimum of 5 years of procurement experience in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Note : the selection committee will consider an equivalent combination of relevant education, training and experience;
Proficient in Microsoft Office;
Exceptional organization abilities married with capacity to identify issues, propose viable solutions, and implement appropriate changes;
Track-record of consistently performing under pressure while demonstrating sound judgement, poise, accuracy, confidentiality, and promptness.
Preference may be given to applicants who
Demonstrate significant procurement experience related to heavy industry, manufacturing, maintenance, or construction;
Possess a certificate in purchasing from the Purchasing Management Association of Canada (â€œPMACâ€ ).
