The Attorney General is the legal advisor to the government of British Columbia and is charged with ensuring that the administration of public affairs is carried out in accordance with the law.
The Ministry of Attorney General is structured to carry out this mandate under the direction of the Attorney General, and the Legal Services Branch (LSB) supports the Ministry in fulfilling this mandate by serving as legal advisor to government in civil law matters.
LSB provides legal advice to government and ensures that legal risks associated with government operations are reduced. LSB's clients include all ministries of the government, Cabinet and certain public agencies.
and provides legal support services to supervising counsel and other legal counsel within the law group. The LOM directs, supervises, trains and mentors the administrative support staff which support legal counsel and staff.
The LOM serves as the critical link between Branch Management, Assistant Deputy Attorney General's office and the staff in their respective law groups.
LSB's Vancouver Office is seeking to fill a permanent full-time LOM position in the Litigation Group. The LOM will report to the Legal Administrative Officer for the Vancouver Office, but may also be asked to take direction from the Deputy Supervisor of this Group.
Legal Counsel in the Litigation Group are responsible for appearing on behalf of the Attorney General of British Columbia and Her Majesty the Queen in right of the Province of British Columbia at all levels of court and administrative tribunals on litigation matters.
They also provide legal advice on government operations, legislation and potential lawsuits. The Litigation Group is divided between Victoria and Vancouver, and this position is for the Vancouver Office component.
Work is carried out in a high profile and fast-paced office where client relations, tact, diplomacy and organization are essential for the smooth operation of the office.
The LOM carries out the duties and responsibilities with minimum supervision, maintaining confidentiality and using discretion when addressing sensitive issues.
The LOM must be comfortable acting independently while managing multiple projects and emerging priorities.
