CIMA+ is currently seeking applications for the position of Building Structural Technologist from qualified individuals who are interested in becoming a member of our Buildings Engineering group in Edmonton and Calgary, Alberta.

Key Responsibilities

Provide building structural design services for commercial, institutional, educational, healthcare, government, recreational and light industrial facilities.

Prepare working drawings using Autodesk® Revit or AutoCAD.

Work in a team environment and perform work independently on projects to complete required tasks and outcomes.

Keep current on new products, technologies, design processes and drafting techniques.

Coordinate work with architects, other engineering disciplines, and Owner representatives.

Perform load calculations, size and select equipment and distribution systems.

Perform field reviews and attend construction meetings.


Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Engineering Design and Drafting Technology, or equivalent from an accredited post-secondary institution.

Eligible for C.E.T. or P.Tech. membership with Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists (ASET).

5+ years or progressive experience in building structural design, incorporating Autodesk® Revit and AutoCAD.

Fundamental drafting skills to layout structural design in an organized, methodical and legible manner.

Understanding of regulations, codes and standards associated with building structural design.

Basic understanding of building mechanical and building electrical equipment.

Ability to meet assignment schedules & deliver quality products under pressure.

Team player and independent worker.

Professional, energetic, organized and action-oriented.

Experience in using Microsoft office products including MS Excel and MS Word.

Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written.

Able to travel without restrictions.

Willingness to engage in lifelong learning.

The following are considered assets :

LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP), Fellow or Green Associate.

Proficient in Autodesk® Revit and AutoCAD to be a subject matter leader.

Experience in Building Information Modeling (BIM).

Experience in preparing engineering reports and / or contract specifications.

Experience in conducting field reviews.

Experience in conducting building condition assessments.

Experience in project cost estimating and / or scheduling.

Experience leading and mentoring a team of technologists.

Experience with structural finite element engineering software packages such as ETABS, SAP, SAFE, RAM or STAAD.

Experience on projects certified to LEED, Living Building Challenge (LBC), Passive House, and / or Green Globes.
