Key Accountabilities

Reporting to the Manager, Bussing and Hardstand Operations, this position is responsible for supporting the bussing team through the development and delivery of training, supporting documentation, tracking and auditing of incidents and the creation of corrective action plan development.

They will onboard new employees, audit standard operating procedures, develop gap analysis and provision of recommendations to address corrective and preventative actions.

They will also develop long and short-term training plans, and be responsible for the maintenance of training records.

  • Develop training course objectives, using best practices, requirements, goals, and the yearly training plan in line with adult learning methodologies
  • Maintain the training materials for the Bussing unit and track the training compliance for the unit
  • Develop supporting documentation for processes within the Bussing unit
  • Support and assist the leadership of Aviation Services with departmental training requirements
  • Act as the primary provider of mentoring and training for Bussing Operations staff, including but is not limited to; equipment operation, new hire orientation, radio operation, Inspection procedures, resource management and allocation, bussing system related software, bus route training and all other related topics
  • Facilitate Bussing Ops and System related training for other GTAA staff as required
  • Assist Manager in the follow up of bussing occurrences and the development of corrective action plans; while keeping a key focus on SMS (Safety Management System) with a risk assessment and root cause analysis
  • Be a part of the SMS team to proactively communicate SMS program information, key triggers and departmental trends
  • Conduct audits of standard operating procedures and health and safety control programs, draft gap analysis and recommendations to address corrective and preventative actions
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders and management to implement and verify the effectiveness of corrective and preventative actions
  • Create and maintain long and short-term plans for training and maintains records and databases to enable the provision of accurate information
  • Support budget and business plan creation through analysis of audits and training records to identify gaps and opportunities for improvements
  • Create, co-ordinate and maintain training schedules in co-ordination with the needs and requirements of front-line staff
  • Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years airport operational experience
  • Minimum 2 years facilitation and training experience
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, facilitating and conducting training and verifying effectiveness, and incorporating adult learning methodologies
  • Experience with Occupational Health & Safety Committees and the systematic identification and control of hazards in the workplace, including workplace inspections, job safety analysis (JSA) and auditing
  • Demonstrated experience with investigating and development of root cause analysis
  • Project planning, management and oversight experience
  • Minimum valid Ontario class C driver’s license
  • Must possess a D / A AVOP or be able to obtain one within 30 days
  • Must be able to obtain and retain Transportation Security Clearance at the designated level for the position

  • Ability to conduct investigations and collect information, disseminate and analyze the gathered information, derive contributing factors and root causes, investigate to verify root causes and develop appropriate corrective and preventative actions with other groups
  • Ability to assess organizational training needs and prepare effective training material and curriculum to suit, using the principles and best practices in adult education
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Analytical skills to identify issues and trends impacting learning performance with the ability to identify areas of potential learning gaps and develop strategies to convey the new task or procedure
  • Knowledge of airport operations, Aviation Services (AVS) roles and responsibilities, as well as the core processes of other divisions including Resource Management Unit (RMU) and Customer and Terminal Services (CTS), Airport Development & Technical Services (ADTS)
  • Proficient communicator, with strength in both verbal and written forms to be able to effectively communicate ideas and materials to various audiences
  • Expert presentation skills to convey information to all levels of the organization, ensuring they understand crucial information
  • Knowledge of the operation, and basic maintenance and inspection of busses and associated equipment
  • Knowledge of the Airside Vehicle Operators Permit (AVOP) program and policies
  • Strong ability to listen and understand others and see past the strong emotions and opposing positions
  • Ability to provide sound judgment with expert knowledge to persuade others in conducting tasks in a safer, more effective and efficient way
  • Ability to deal tactfully and diplomatically with functional and front-line employees to gain their understanding and cooperation
  • Ability to effectively provide guidance, instruction, training and direction to employees during training sessions and during the live operation
  • Ability to envision, design, implement, and monitor safety-critical programs to satisfy the requirements of multiple internal and external stakeholders, taking into account operational, business, and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to understand and analyze highly complex cause-and-effect scenarios to determine contributing factors and root causes to difficult operational problems
  • Ability to act with a high degree of autonomy and impartiality to assist in conducting exploratory investigations
  • Ability to Interpret and apply best practices relative to occupational health & safety, aviation safety and security
  • Ability to apply experience and expertise in analyzing situations or problems and develop creative solutions to meet safety and security requirements and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) while delivering a high-quality result
  • Ability to source information and create training tools including guides, manuals, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) presentations and job aids
  • Ability to develop training schedules and transition plans to ensure that new employees are training and integrated into existing complex work schedules
  • Ability to develop safe and operationally feasible solutions to complex and diverse work problems
  • Ability to prioritize and juggle multiple tasks and deadlines with conflicting priorities, using sound time management skills
  • Ability to work in an office type setting and airside, resulting in exposure to dust, grease, heights, noise, aircraft and equipment fumes and inclement weather and restricted spaces
  • Work requires standing, bending, stooping, climbing of stairs, standing or walking for long periods while conducting classroom, or on-
  • site training and inspections

  • Work requires conducting training on the operation of busses and ancillary equipment, bussing system software which requires hand eye coordination, concentration, vigilance, and at times hand, eye and audio coordination
