Dillon’s Communities and Environment technical group is looking for a Waste Management Engineer-in-Training to join our multidisciplinary team of professionals.
You will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience.
At Dillon, we operate as one team. This position is available at either of our Dillon Toronto, Kitchener, Oakville, Guelph, or Hamilton offices.
What your day will look like
Engineering and Design (85%)
Assist in the detailed design of solid waste projects related to solid waste facility design, facility evaluation, facility operations, landfill gas management, leachate management, and construction oversight.
Prepare documents including construction drawings, contract specifications, design reports, calculations, as well as stakeholder communications.
Assist project managers and liaise with engineers, environmental scientists and others on a variety of multidisciplinary design teams (including project engineers, planners, biologists, technologists, etc.).
Field work related to construction observation, data collection, and inspection.
Coordination and management of project tasks, budgets and schedules.
Business Development (9%)
Prepare technical and financial proposals.
Identify and develop new business opportunities.
Lead the maintenance of existing client relationships including preparation of proposals and statement of qualifications.
Business travel upon request, acknowledging public health restrictions.
Learning & Development (6%)
Commit to self-development and ongoing learning and professional development.
Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees.
What you will need to succeed
A degree in environmental or civil engineering.
Eligible to be licensed as a professional engineer in Ontario within one year (preferred). Licensed to practice as a professional engineer in Ontario would also be eligible.
0 to 2 years’ experience in solid waste management for public and / or private clients.
Interested in growing your career in the waste management industry.
Exceptional communication (verbal and written) skills are essential.
Ability to efficiently use Microsoft Excel and Word.
Experience in working and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and / or groups.
Demonstrated abilities in the coordination of project / group teams.
Experience / interest working with solid waste management facilities, including landfills, organic processing facilities and transfer stations.
Knowledge of applicable waste management legislation including environmental assessment requirements and the approvals application process would be considered an asset.
Interest in developing civil design skills.
