Job Description :

Reporting to the Assistant Vice-President of the Pharmaceutical Benefits and Innovation, the Director is accountable, with their team, for executing and delivering on Sun Life’s Pharmaceutical Negotiations strategy within the Sun Life Group Benefits business.

The director, who is part of the Pharmaceutical Benefits and Innovation core team, works collaboratively with other directors, as well as with internal and external partners to deliver the business plan.

Leveraging great negotiating skills and insights, the successful candidate will be accountable for Sun Life’s brand and successful partnerships in product listing agreements and other strategic relationships with pharmaceutical manufacturers.

Main accountabilities :

  • Develop, lead and execute on drug plan management strategies and plan sustainability optimization by key product areas or disease states
  • Evolve Sun Life’s Product Listing Agreement (PLA) program by cultivating internal and external relationships
  • Accountable for the oversight and on-going, management of Sun Life’s listing agreements
  • Ensure agreements are relevant and competitive based on market dynamics whilst abiding to all appropriate regulatory frameworks
  • Proactively monitor and synthesize market research and external issues impacting pharmaceutical reimbursement including industry trends, public policy, and the competitive landscape
  • Lead and inspire a multi-functional team, includes mentoring and coaching direct reports and colleagues
  • Lead as needed, working and Steering committees to foster cross functional alignment
  • Will be required to represent Sun Life and the Pharma Benefit area at external client presentations and industry committees / conferences on an occasional basis.
  • Competencies :

  • Proven ability to develop strategic vision, and develop projects to execute on the vision
  • Expert level subject matter expertise : Market access, value proposition development, drug reimbursement processes in the public and private payer landscape, public policy
  • Strength in synthesizing complex models (i.e. Pharmacoeconomic evaluation, budget impact assessment)
  • Very strong negotiating skills
  • Proficient in drafting / reviewing and binding legal agreements
  • Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to create and deliver professional, and impactful presentations to senior leadership
  • In-depth business knowledge including in areas of product development, project management
  • Ability to be agile and have the capacity to work on multiple projects concurrently
  • Expert level communication (verbal and written) skills
  • Innovative and creative problem solver who is a proven collaborator with experience facilitating group discussions
  • Broad business acumen, strong decision making skills
  • Education and Experience :

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 7-10 years experience in the pharmaceutical market access or insurance industry
  • 5-7 years experience leading or building strong cross-functional relationships, including business to business partnerships
  • Assets :

  • Ability to travel potentially up to 50% to attend business meetings and / or conferences
  • The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.

    In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.

    Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
