The Opportunity : As Walker Industries continues to grow, the role of Environmental Performance Business Partner has become an increasingly integral function for the organization’s business units.

The successful candidate will be based in and work from the Walker Aggregates office in Barrie.Walker Aggregates, a division of Walker Industries, supplies high quality aggregates and asphalt to communities across much of Ontario.

We have locations in Simcoe, Grey Bruce and Essex Counties as well as the Niagara Region.The Environmental Performance Department at Walker Industries is the corporate service that supports operations in all divisions to operate in a manner that is compliant with environmental regulations, conformant with company environmental policies, and advancing with best practices.

The Department also supports operations in all divisions to manage energy effectively and efficiently with emphasis on demand response, conservation, renewables, and fleet.

The Department also supports operations in all divisions through facility permitting, policy advocacy, government liaison and public relations.

Candidate Profile : The successful candidate will have proven environmental science experience, having worked in an environmental consulting or operations compliance capacity for more than 5 years.

They will have an advanced level of interpersonal and communication skills and be able to relate to all levels of the organization.

Managing multiple initiatives in a competent and confident manner is vital. Proven ability to engage with government agencies in positive and progressive manner is essential.

Strong computer skills with an ability to analyze data or problems and make recommendations that at times can be complex in nature is a true asset.

Key Accountabilities : The Environmental Performance Business Partner will perform various functions, including : * Manages environmental compliance, with support of operations, for all facilities within Simcoe Region and provides advice to operations on compliance strategies and actions.

  • Manages and conducts environmental sampling and monitoring activities, with support of operations, including obtaining, analyzing and documenting monitoring data and ensuring operation of monitoring equipment.
  • An emphasis will be placed on water testing as this will be the majority of the environmental sampling conducted.* Oversees consultants and internal personnel, with support of operations, which conduct environmental-

    related activities, including sampling, modelling and reporting.* Communicates regularly with divisional and facility management and personnel to support compliance activities, including monitoring, inspection and reporting.

  • Prepares correspondence, with support of operations, to government agencies and other stakeholders on compliance status, permit applications and compliance reporting.
  • Facilitates corporate environmental programs including environmental training, climate, energy, and sustainability.* Proven ability to adapt and be flexible to changing schedules and circumstances.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively to varying audiences.* Experience conducting audits considered an asset.* Familiarity with aggregate, asphalt and / or construction operations considered an asset.
  • Qualifications : A minimum of a college diploma / university degree in general or environmental science. Professional designation considered an asset, including P.

    Geo., P.Eng., or equivalent.Experience : Greater than five (5) years in environmental science or environmental engineering fields.

    Working experience with Adaptive Management Plans (AMPs) would be an asset.
