Position Summary

In this dynamic role, you will be responsible for the effective management of our Internal Investigations and Occupational Health & Safety programs.

As it relates to the Internal Investigations program , you will be responsible for investigating and resolving complex workplace issues and complaints.

Conduct investigations and maintain appropriate records in a confidential manner. Draft investigation findings reports and make recommendation for corrective actions, including time-frames to the appropriate Parties.

Support the corrective actions by providing expertise, advice and clarification as needed by the Parties affected by the issue or complaint.

Prepare and write complex ER HR Investigation reports and summaries of findings with supporting documentation that is fair, impartial, and represents the facts and analyzes investigative results to determine whether the facts suggest a violation of policy and or legislation.

As it relates to Occupational Health & Safety program , you will be responsible for ensuring the organization’s OHS program in place delivers on all requirements as defined by relevant provincial legislation.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the coordination and management of claims, return to work programs, policy development, compliance, projects and reporting.

Working collaboratively with Operations, the role will be strategically focused to ensure progressive initiatives are assessed and implemented to improve employee support and realize cost savings.

Qualifications

You will be evaluated against defined criteria, skills and attributes. As such, you should clearly identify relevant experience and training based on the following :

Education :

  • University Degree with a focus on Human Resources and / or Employment Law and / or Industrial Psychology and / or Private Investigations
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience with the principles and practices of investigation and research, including interview techniques, principles and procedures of record keeping and reporting, research techniques and data collection
  • Professional designation (i.e CHRP, CHRL, LLB) an asset
  • Training in Administrative Investigative Techniques
  • Project Management an asset
  • Technical Knowledge :

  • Solid knowledge and understanding of the BC Human Rights code and, relevant Canadian Labour and Employment Law, including but not limited to the Canada Labour Code Part II, BC Labour Relations Act, the Employment Standards Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), OH&S Regulations as related to Violence Prevention in the Workplace.
  • Expert in alternative dispute resolution / mediation
  • Experience conducting interviews with Complainants, Respondents and Witnesses to collect, analyze and interpret the information received from investigations in order to propose recommendations.
  • Experience in Mental Health First Aid
  • Track record in the development and implementation of policy and programs related to OHS

  • Experience in collaborating with Operations and Legal Counsel on complex investigations
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively managing high-volume workload and complex priorities
  • Demonstrate integrity and sensitivity to various culture & sound judgment in safeguarding confidential and sensitive information
  • Some travel may be required
