Shelburne Ship Repair is actively engaged in the repair & maintenance of DND & CCG vessels, as well as commercial vessels on the South West Shore of Nova Scotia

Irving Shipbuilding is seeking Red Seal / Journeyperson Electricians for current opportunities.

  • Electricians assemble, install and fabricate electrical components and systems that are tied into electrical operations in a vessel;
  • their roles and influence touch essentially all aspects of the inner workings of a ship.

    Qualifications :

  • Completion of college / CEGEP / vocational or technical training
  • Industrial / Construction Electrician trade certification (Red Seal / Journeyperson)
  • High standard of integrity and professionalism
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as being self-motivated to be able to work without supervision when required
  • All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.

    S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

  • Physical effort and work conditions :

  • Candidates will be required to wear respiratory protective equipment and must comply with all safety regulations regarding the proper fit and use of this personal protective equipment.
  • Candidates will be required to work at heights from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms; stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in confined spaces, inclement weather and support extended hours and overtime as business needs dictate.
  • Work may be performed indoors and outdoors. You will frequently handle, lift, carry and set up parts and equipment that weigh up to fifty (50lbs) pounds.

    Occasionally, you may be required to lift and carry items that weigh over fifty (50lbs) pounds.

    Key Responsibilities :

  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics and electrical code specifications
  • Install shipboard cables, cable trays, conduits and other materials & equipment
  • Identify type of equipment : motors and controls, generators, instrumentation, switchgears, industrial storage batteries, lighting fixtures
  • Install, examine, replace or repair electrical components
  • Use test equipment and components for current, continuity and voltage
  • Use electrician hand and power tools and various test equipment
  • Maintain, repair and test motors, generators and control systems
  • Effectively use Lock-out / Tag-out procedures
