Join our Team

We are looking for a new Labour Relations Advisor to join our team. Theywill bring experience in labour relations within large union environment.

Ouradvisors provide advice and counsel to leaders at all levels within assignedclient groups on general human resources matters including labour relations andrelated legislation, multiple collective agreement interpretation andadministration, organizational policy and procedure, and occupational healthand safety (OH&S).

They act as first point of contact for clients on allhuman resources needs, and works collaboratively with Recruitment,Compensation / Classification, Labour Relations, OH&S and other departmentssuch as Change Initiatives to support client needs.

Responsibilities

As Labour Relations Advisor, you will :

  • Reviews, researches, analyzes and interprets collective agreements, legislation and policy and provides consultative advice and direction to HR Consultants and Advisors and to other HR staff and organizational leaders in the administration of same, including guidance and advice regarding the labour relations implications of proposed courses of action.
  • Maintains the union / management relationship as the primary contact on complex and significant corporate labour relations issues as assigned.
  • Negotiates with unions on behalf of PHC regarding memorandums of understanding.

  • Manages the grievance process through research and analysis of the facts, jurisprudence, and impact on local and industry situations;
  • negotiates resolution with the union.

  • Chairs regular labour / management meetings for all unions in a manner that promotes a proactive labour / management environment.
  • Sets agendas, coaches and otherwise supports leaders and HR Advisory Services staff with various levels of labour relations expertise who are participating in the meetings.

  • Carries out workplace investigations where there is an alleged violation of a corporate policy (e.g., respect at work, patient abuse, and confidentiality);
  • makes recommendation based on factual findings and a review of jurisprudence and with consideration of consistency of application across PHC.

    Provides liaison and direction to external investigators and legal counsel in investigations where such services are retained.

  • Presents at third party hearings and / or prepares employer’s position for third party hearings, and represents the employer throughout proceedings in which outside legal counsel is used or where PHC is represented by the health employers’ association.
  • Represents HR at management meetings and other forums on labour relations issues. Prepares reports and studies on various labour relations matters for internal use.
  • Maintains knowledge of industry labour relations developments by reviewing industry materials such as arbitration awards, reports and journals, attending approved seminars or conferences and summarizing and sharing information as appropriate.
  • Develops and delivers education and training programs on a variety of labour relations issues to both HR staff and management staff throughout PHC, in order to coach and guide staff through various labour relations processes.
  • Leads the management and coordination of the essential services process across PHC. Represents PHC at Labour Relations Board hearings related to these issues.
  • Qualifications

    University degree in a related field, plus five (5) years ofprogressively responsible labour relations experience in a large, complexunionized environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training andexperience.
