The Manager, DevOps is accountable for the activities of the DevOps Team in shaping, building and releasing applications and systems that help to empower and deliver capabilities throughout the organization.
This role is responsible for establishing DevOps standards and ensuring deployment, testing, quality assurance, service health support and maintenance of both vendor-based and in-house built solutions and integrations hosted on-prem and in the cloud related to college business and student services.
The Manager, DevOps works with IT Leadership in the development and implementation of policies and procedures designed to streamline operations and support short and long-term goals.
The successful candidate will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required.
Responsibilities :
Responsible for development operations (DevOps) across the College, including the support of on-premise and cloud-based applications and integrations for a variety of administrative and academic technology needs related to systems and services to the business and Conestoga’s community
Manages a team of DevOps staff and assigns technical specialists to leverage a structured approach to the testing, troubleshooting and deployment of reliable solutions and prioritizes feature development, support and administration of CI / CD platforms and related tools
Manages the infrastructure deployment and application development platforms on the Azure infrastructure
Works closely with development teams to facilitate migration and onboarding of applications from On-Premise to Cloud deployment platforms
Applies methodologies and technologies to modernize and improve deployment operations
Promotes, maintains and enforces secure coding practices and assists development teams with analysis and design for feature development on CI / CD platform and pipelines
Ensures documentation is developed in accordance with development, infrastructure, and DevOps standards
Leverages methodologies to ensure solutions maintain data integrity, security and privacy requirements
Ensures the maintenance of technology architecture documentation, including IT schematics / diagrams, and distributes updated materials over the course of infrastructure and system updates
Provides input into the development of department goals, objectives and strategic plan, as well as the establishment / implementation of policies and procedures
Participates in design review and decision making for development in the cloud, providing guidance and best practices addressing security, high availability, scalability and cost optimization of solutions on Azure
Works with the Leadership Team to align with major initiatives and establish operational priorities for the team
Meets regularly with the members and key stakeholders of core IT development, cyber security, network and infrastructure support areas, and Product Owners to fully understand their business and technology needs, in order to develop, facilitate and deploy a congruent technology architecture
Coordinates with vendors to develop installation, training and implementation plans
Ensures the development and management of cloud infrastructure working in close collaboration with teams supporting cloud operations and engineering
Initiates and participates in security reviews, security audits and enterprise access review processes for infrastructure and access management
Collaborate with network, infrastructure, and cyber security teams for on-prem, cloud to on-prem and cloud to cloud connectivity as required by solution designs.
Responsible for applicable staff development, motivation, evaluation, time / project reporting and training, as well as encouraging the transfer / sharing of knowledge within the department.
Provides leadership, mentorship and determines work priorities / assignments for staff
Qualifications :
Three-year Diploma / Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Business or related field of study
A minimum of seven years of relevant work experience in management of application / web development operations and / or DevOps
Proficient in development, development operations methodologies and integration, primarily focused on the development, deployment, monitoring, and securing technology solutions
Well versed and experienced with cloud technologies and methodologies
Established management, leadership, analytical, organizational and interpretive skills supportive of delivering technology enabled solutions that meet the needs of the business and students
Quality focused, possessing strong client service, conflict resolution and project management skills
Extensive background knowledge and understanding of Information Technology with the ability to research opportunities and convert into value added solutions
Strong problem solving and decision-making ability with a keen interest in technology with a solution driven approach
High-end skills in quality assurance methodologies and technologies
Excellent interpersonal, communication and consultative skills to work effectively with a wide variety of clients / stakeholders, management and technical staff
