Job Summary / Basic Function :

In 2014, British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) celebrated five decades of providing highly relevant, critical training and education to individuals striving to be uniquely career-

ready in a competitive and ever-changing market. As the largest polytechnic institute in Canada, with over 47,000 students, a total of 2,400 full and part-

time staff, BCIT is one of British Columbia's largest post-secondary institutes. Renowned for offering hands-on, practical learning, a BCIT education has continued to challenge students through programs that provide real-

life contextual instruction, and that has increasingly integrated applied research into both educational practice and industry advancements.

BCIT equips graduates to anticipate and conquer the complex challenges of our day and plays a unique role in the larger educational system of British Columbia.

BCIT works hard to successfully meet the needs of students, industry, and business in BC. Generations of leaders have come from BCIT and they have envisioned, created, evolved, and improved the economic, social, and environmental prosperity of our province.

An opportunity now exists for an exceptionally talented human resources leader to assume the role of Director, Employee Relations.

Reporting to the Vice President, Human Resources and People Development, the Director Employee Relations is a member of the VP's leadership team.

In this key role, the Director will provide strategic direction to the delivery of a wide range of employee programs and services, ensuring best in class HR advisory services, providing strategic direction to the development of bargaining strategies and leading the Institute's bargaining committees in collective bargaining.

The Director, Employee Relations should be an experienced, strategic HR professional with experience in employee / labour relations within a large, complex, multi-

union environment. He or she will possess strong leadership skills and the ability to build and manage a team of reporting HR / LR practitioners across multiple disciplines.

A Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation and degree is preferred, although an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
