Position Overview

Under the direction of the Field Service Manager, the Field Service Technician (I&R) is responsible for installing and repairing voice, data and smart home services (phone lines, internet, TV, alarms) for residential and business customers.

The incumbent will deliver first-class customer service and commitment to safety and quality.


  • Provide unparalleled customer service excellence
  • Install residential Copper and Fiber voice, internet & max tv and applications. Complete other installation and repair functions as assigned
  • Trace and locate appropriate telecommunications links
  • Promote products and services when appropriate
  • Maintain Company vehicles to ensure excellent working condition, cleanliness, and adherence to regular maintenance schedule
  • Operate equipment and tools in a safe manner, while being respectful of customer property
  • Ensure test equipment and tools are maintained in excellent working condition
  • Trouble shoot technical issues swiftly and accurately
  • Work indoors, outdoors and aloft at customer locations
  • Assist with safe operation of bucket truck controls, where required
  • Provide customers with information on job status; explain and discuss details regarding progress, issues, and applicable charges
  • Responsible for administrative tasks, including : preparing time and expense reports, clearing jobs in Web Tracker entries, and Company vehicle mileage tracking
  • Help build and maintain positive relations within the team
  • Protect organizations’ values by keeping information confidential
  • Enhance organizational reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishment
  • Adhere to and promote the environmental, health & safety policies of AFL
  • Employee may be asked to perform other ancillary or related duties as required, to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
  • Qualifications

    Knowledge & Experience

  • Previous experience in the telecommunications industry an asset
  • Industry Training Authority (ITA) Certification as a Security Systems Technician ( under supervision acceptable) in BC / equivalent industry experience is an asset
  • Passion for customer service
  • Strong mechanical, technical and analytical ability
  • Ability to do fine, precise work with their hands
  • Ability to work aloft including climbing ladders and poles
  • Ability to assist with bucket truck control operation, where required
  • Proficient in operating hand and power tools, and test equipment
  • Normal color vision to work with color-coded wiring
  • Ability to effectively handle both favorable and unfavorable customer interactions
  • Fluent in English (reading, writing and conversational)
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license. May be required to operate Company Vehicle and meet AFL’s internal Motor Vehicle policy

    Physical Requirements

  • Physically demanding workload and work environment
  • Work in locations that preclude the ability to return home
  • Work in all weather conditions

  • Various shifts as assigned (morning, evening, weekend, and statutory holidays)
