Senior Manager, Investment Communications

The opportunity

This is a unique opportunity to assist in the development and execution of the investment communications strategy of the organization on investment issues affecting internal and external stakeholders that are fundamental to stakeholder relations.

This position is the lead on all communications aspects of transaction announcements and will report to the Director, External Communications with the latitude for making independent decisions utilizing creativity and innovation.

Who you'll work with

You will have the opportunity to interact with our Investment division, Communications team and collaborate with global PR agency and other external consultants on an ongoing basis for specific projects.

What you'll do

  • Act as a key media contact to handle inbound inquiries and on press releases.
  • Partner on the delivery of the global investment communications strategy that supports our long-term goals to differentiate ourselves and build our and reputation to help deliver on the pension promise.
  • Support global advocacy efforts with general media relations programs including relationship building, news releases, op-eds etc.
  • in collaboration with the Corporate Affairs department. Opportunities may be identified by the business or captured in media tracking, analytics and reputational research.

    Prepare materials and lead events that support and build Ontario Teachers’ reputation related to its investments team and programs.

    This may relate to both proactive and reactive management of topics and issues including investments, governance and responsible investing.

    E.g. : marketing materials, speeches, website content, briefing materials, and support for portfolio company events.)

  • Craft and manage messaging and materials delivery for mid-year reporting and support investment-related materials for annual reporting season.
  • This includes organizing media conferences and presentations, creating an investment brochure, and developing speaking notes and presentations for investment executives.

    This may involve coordinating and delegating work to colleagues and contingent workers.

  • Subject matter is highly sensitive and complex and requires intricate issues management, with specific strategies for different partners, including managing each component, setting priorities and monitoring all costs.
  • Provide integrated advice on reputational and media related issues. Also, provide input to leaders on annual investment communications budget development.
  • You will mentor, coach and provide oversight to other team members.
  • Use knowledge of investments and investor relations to position sensitive communications effectively.
  • Good judgment and independent decision-making are required in identifying appropriate investment issues to pursue and making program recommendations.
  • Identify the most effective method of presenting the information to the target audience and developing materials by liaising with senior executives to remain current on investment, finance and governance changes and trends.
  • What you'll need

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Corporate Communications or Journalism with over 10 years of progressively responsible communications experience in a financial, investment or agency environment.
  • CSC accreditation and CIRI (Canadian Investor Relations Institute) association membership an asset.
  • Deep knowledge of investments concepts, products and transactions required, you have the ability to translate this technical knowledge into user-friendly comprehensible information (eg.
  • Financial reporting, M&A)

  • You have experience as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and understand of the Board’s and Management’s strategies, objectives, policies and administrative practices.
  • Given the sensitive nature of the issues being managed, considerable tact and subtlety are required

  • You will collaborate with our global offices and respond during off hours to business needs. Responsibilities may occur 24 / 7.
  • Experience in financial services organizations with a large base of knowledge workers required.
