Job Description

This Vice President of Information Technology ( VP IT’) is a new role for this growing private company. The establishment of this position is a result of the increasing demand for executive-level technology leadership and oversight for the IT function.

The selected candidate will provide leadership for the strategic development and management of information resources and technology to support the achievement of the company’s mission, strategic goals, and business objectives.

The VP IT will be responsible for all enterprise-wide information technology including infrastructure, security, architecture, application development and support, networks and communications, vendor management, procurement, budget and sourcing, project management and data center operations.

The VP IT will participate in overall business planning and innovation and must understand the organization’s core technology competency as well as future capabilities.

A critical piece of the IT application / data landscape includes a proprietary ERP system which was jointly developed by the company and a third-party application development organization.

A core responsibility of the VP IT is to establish an internal team capable of overseeing the product roadmap including all aspects related to the enhancement and evolution of the application itself.

This VP IT will work closely with business leaders to drive transformational change and solve operational and workflow problems through the use of information technology and process redesign.

This person is responsible for ensuring the achievement of performance targets and strategic initiatives by setting and meeting operational goals that are consistent with the vision of the organization as well as be responsible for the IT department budgets, both capital and operating, while ensuring effective service delivery for assigned areas of responsibility.

The IT team is made up of approximately 8 staff and by selected vendors / consultants.

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage the organization’s IT function including the infrastructure, security, applications and data environments as well as the IT staff to ensure service levels are high and meet business needs.
  • Develop, maintain and manage an overall information strategy including systems software and hardware necessary to ensure the systems capabilities are responsive to the needs of the company’s growth and objectives.
  • Coach, mentor and train IT department staff on all operational activities to ensure performance levels meet company standards and initiatives are met.
  • Collaborate directly with the Executive team and decision makers in various departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement and support cost effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization.
  • Lead the development and implementation of all information technology initiatives across all areas of the organization.
  • Ensure that all external service providers deliver all necessary operations and project services to support and meet business requirements.
  • Oversee the information and data integrity of the company and its business units.
  • Ensure the security of the information systems, communication lines and equipment.
  • Establish the development of disaster recovery procedures and plans and ensure ongoing review and certification of these processes.
  • Perform additional IT-related duties as assigned to support the organization.
  • Within 18 Month, the VP IT will have :

  • Established a clear vision and path for the IT function and will have initiated / completed key projects working, with the user community.
  • Developed a comprehensive, integrated plan that includes all projects / activities within IT’s purview.
  • Established and executed a plan to leverage 3rd party developer with potential internal IT team.
  • Built a high-performance IT team that addresses all aspects of the IT landscape.
  • Developed a solid understanding of the company and will be viewed by the senior management team and the business operations (e.
  • g., operations and merchandising) as being an effective, results oriented leader in terms of maximizing the IT function to help move the organization forward.

  • Developed a reporting methodology that allows ease of report creation and combines the data of the various IT platforms the company currently utilizes.
  • Requirements

  • 15+ years experience in a senior-level information technology position including managing remote / decentralized staff.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Extensive senior IT management experience with a proven track record of creating and delivering against complex IT strategies.
  • Ability to identify emerging shifts in the business environment and applying cost-effective technology solutions.
  • Experience with logistics / transportation / routing functions is essential.
  • Experience with the software development lifecycle (waterfall and agile) is essential.
  • Experience creating an application development team and supporting a proprietary software solution (in conjunction with a third-party developer) is essential.
  • Experience working with a NOSQL software tool similar to Mongo or RavenDB is preferred.
  • Unquestionable business and personal integrity and ethical standards.
  • Detail-orientation with a logical, methodical approach to problem solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with and influence the decision making of senior management through a polished executive presence and consultative management style.
  • Ability to operate both strategically and tactically, providing vision and leadership along with the operational know-how to achieve that vision.
  • Superior communication skills, written and verbal, with the ability to address and influence all levels within the organization.

    He / she will also have the ability to develop talent and foster team spirit within the IT organization.

    Experience supporting proprietary software development with 3rd parties, product roadmaps, and risk mitigation with regards to 3rd party development : The company’s proprietary ERP is a mission critical application which will be the responsibility of the VP of IT.

    Business understanding and process engineering : Has the ability to understand the various business models, dynamics, trends, and global / local requirements, as well as an ability to demonstrate how best to conduct business in the future.

    The selected candidate must be able to use this foresight to define a strategic vision and build an implementation roadmap, which will ultimately enhance business performance.

    Drive Business Value : Has the ability to understand business priorities, governance, cost drivers and the dynamics of the total cost of ownership’ of a modern IT function, taking into consideration the balance between a global IT strategy and local business requirements.

    As an outcome, the VP IT will deliver results and value in a cost-effective manner.
