We are seeking a reliable, emotionally intelligent and people focused individual to provide support and connect shelter participants with resources in the community for housing.
This is a casual, permanent position. Must be flexible to work day and evening shifts to meet the needs of the program.
Your key responsibilities include :
Provide individual support to men with high acuity
Relate with men accessing the shelter
Perform shelter team duties ensuring the best possible operation of the program
Responsible for working in a healthy and safe manner
House of Friendship organizational responsibilities
Maintaining positive community partnerships and connecting participants with community resources
Upholding Housing of Friendships reputation and values in community interactions
Your skills and experience include :
Post-secondary degree or diploma in social services or related field is required
Experience providing individualized support services
Experience of homelessness or relating with people experiencing homelessness
Experience in a social service setting preferred
Current Standard First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain at hiring
Commitment to a strength-based approach to supporting people
Strong oral and written communication skills
Aptitude for accurate and efficient computer data entry
Ability to work effectively with people from various abilities, life situations and cultural backgrounds
Commitment to understand and uphold the mission and values of House of Friendship is expected
Note : Working with and encountering participants who may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and / or experiencing symptoms of mental illness will be expected.
