    Job Description

    Participates in electrical and process control or automation engineering activities for operations of the Enerkem Alberta Biofuels manufacturing plant.

    Provides technical field support in the areas of electrical reliability, automation, management of change, regulatory compliance and health and safety.

    This position is located at the operating site. The successful candidate must be comfortable working within an operating facility and working closely with engineering disciplines, maintenance and operators daily to maintain and improve operations.

    Technical and interpersonal skills are equally important to this role.


  • Oversee the development and implementation of site electrical preventative maintenance program
  • Commissioning, operation, and troubleshooting of electrical systems, motors, and instrumentation in the operating facility
  • Support site Reliability Engineer in improving electrical equipment reliability
  • Work with design engineers to implement changes and evaluate options for improvement following proper Management of Change procedures
  • Perform root cause analysis as required to identify continuous improvement opportunities to increase the reliability for electrical equipment
  • Provide support, as needed, to the Process Control Engineer with control system coverage and network / communications troubleshooting
  • Provide support to operations through the maintaining and troubleshooting of electrical systems
  • Analyze operational data and provide recommendations to operations to achieve production targets and objectives
  • Update documents to reflect changes including panel, line, and wiring diagrams
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Registered or permitted to register with APEGA as a P.Eng in good standing.
  • Experience with industrial electrical systems including 25kV and lower
  • Experience with industrial preventative maintenance program, including procedure development, continuous improvement, and work with E&I technicians
  • Minimum 5 years experience working cross-functionally in an industrial operating facility
  • Experience with communication network hardware is an asset
  • Experience with industrial instrumentation systems is an asset
  • Experience with plant control system including panel layout and design, PLC hardware, Honeywell, Allen Bradley, or Siemens controls is an asset
  • Must be available for on-call rotation and off-hours support
  • Ability to adapt continuously and to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to manage many projects with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication skills : written and verbal
  • Highly motivated and energetic. Work well in team environment and possess the interpersonal and communication skills needed to work effectively in cross-functional teams
  • Ability to problem solve in an operating environment
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with co-workers and external vendors
