North Island College is seeking individuals to provide on-call, temporary support assistance for the bookstore operations on an as-

needed basis. Reporting to the Manager, Purchasing Print and Retail Services, the successful candidate will provide assistance in customer service, shelving books and supplies and assist students in locating resources.

You will be notified of assigned shifts by phone, and be required to complete timesheets for payroll purposes. There is no guarantee of hours of work under this temporary appointment.

Please be advised that the end date of your appointment is subject to change and could be ended earlier or extended based on the College's operational or other requirements.

Under Article 1.05 b) of the NIC / CUPE Local 3479 collective agreement a temporary employee with an assignment less than twelve (12) months is excluded from the agreement provisions relating to Seniority (Article 11) and Layoff and Recall (Article 12).

The offer of this temporary appointment, on an on-call, as required basis, does not guarantee any type of continued or future employment with the College, neither is there any obligation on the part of the College to assign you available work for which you may be qualified.

The ending of a temporary appointment is not a discharge and is therefore not subject to the just cause provisions of Article 10.

  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills Duties and Responsibilities - Provide excellent customer service and floor coverage during peak periods;
  • Receive, check , and shelve or otherwise display text and non-text merchandise as shipped by the Instructional Materials Centre;
  • Convey information to faculty, staff, students and other customers regarding the availability and pricing of required or recommended course materials and assist Bookstore Clerks in preparing text reservations;
  • Maintain general cleanliness and orderliness of store furnishings, fixtures and merchandise;
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Manager or Bookstore Clerk. Required Education & Experience - Grade 12 plus completion of training related to computer literacy;
  • Minimum of one year of current related experience in an office or retail environment; preferably in a sales capacity with a campus or other bookstore operation.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities - Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, with the demonstrated ability to exercise tact, good judgment and diplomacy;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to plan and prioritize tasks, and efficiently meet deadlines;
  • Ability to demonstrate effective team behaviours such as active listening, collaboration, balanced participation, and contributing to shared team goals.
