We are currently seeking an Intermediate to senior Electrical & Instrumentation Technologist / Designer to join our Oil & Gas group in the Dartmouth, NS office.
Your Key Responsibilities
Utilizes electrical engineering principles and techniques to provide power, instrument, controls and automation engineering and design services for oil & gas projects other than exploration and drilling.
Defines and conducts the design of electrical control systems.
Reviews and creates piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID) for oil and gas production and storage facilities.
Utilizes computer application programs for sizing control valves, pressure regulators, safety and relief valves, flowmeters, and electric motor control and protection devices.
Creates cause and effect matrices, loop diagrams, block diagrams, control system architecture drawings and network communication drawings.
Develops and reviews single line diagrams, hazardous area classification plan and details, grounding plans and details, lighting plans and details, cable and conduit schedules (cable, conductor sizing), control panel layouts, conduit routing, heat tracing, motor power and control schematics and field wiring.
Develops data sheets for electrical equipment, cables, motor starters, variable frequency drivers; and measurement and control devices, such as control & relief valves, actuators, flow meters, flow and restriction orifices, analyzers, transmitters, and switches.
Applies industry codes and standards such as ANSI (American National Standards Institute.), IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), ISA (International Society of Automation), Canadian Electrical Code, and also client company standards.
Applies industry safety regulations including IEC (International Electro-technical Commission), NPFA (National Fire Protection Association) when conducting safety integrity studies.
Provides electrical engineering technical support for inspection of control systems by participating in Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
Your Capabilities and Credentials
10-15 years’ experience in job offered.
Eligible to register with TechNova would be beneficial.
Be strong in electrical theory.
Have strong aptitudes in troubleshooting.
Comfortable interacting with clients and contractors in a field setting.
Strong verbal communication skills. Capable of carrying out training sessions in front of a large audience.
Able to work independently without supervision and in a team setting. The preferred candidate may :
Have an aptitude for programming in both fundamental computer languages and PLC languages.
Have an aptitude for networking systems and industrial protocols e.g. Routing, Bacnet, Modbus, etc.
Utilize engineering and design communication protocols, such as HART, ContolNet, DeviceNet, Foundation Fieldbus and Profibus for establishing communications between instruments, control equipment, electrical and supervisory systems
Utilize computer application programs (SKM and E-Tap) for sizing and analyzing electrical systems.
Prepare specifications for supervisory and control systems, such as programmable logical controller (PLC), supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), distributed control system (DCS), emergency shut-
down systems (ESS), fire & gas systems, and rotating equipment protection.
Education and Experience
Diploma of Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent.
