Our Field Services group is offering a 4-8 month co-op term as a Construction Inspector to assist in the co-ordination, inspection and construction administration of various land development projects in the Whitby office .
Responsibilities will include :
Plan and organize the coordination, inspection and documentation of contractors’ progress on grading and installation of services, utilities and roads for subdivisions / infrastructure on specified projects directly or through assigned Inspectors in accordance with man-
hour budgets and completion schedules
Coordinate layouts by survey section, coordinate utilities installation and arrange soil testing and inspection
Conduct site meetings and write site meeting reports
Prepare contractors’ progress estimates in reason with Supervisor / Project Manager
Liaise with government officials
Obtain construction-related subdivision documentation from municipalities and regional governments including assumption approvals and guaranteed maintenance agreements.
Submit as-built drawings. Report on and negotiate resolutions to construction issues
Negotiate resolutions with contractors on construction issues such as variance from design
Advise Project Managers and / or Contract Administrator on construction progress and issues, and obtain decisions on issues involving variances from agreements
Assist with applications for letters of credit, and credit reductions produced by Contract Administration section
Provide feedback to design section of variances to engineering drawings
Keep post-construction records and provide progress reports
Assist with implementing and monitoring inspection procedures in accordance with professional and corporate guidelines, including QC
Learn and follow construction safety procedures
Skills, Competencies & Qualifications :
Working towards a post-secondary two-year civil engineering diploma
Municipal inspection experience
Working knowledge of municipal services construction
Strong organizational and planning skills
Valid driver's license and personal vehicle
Strong record keeping and superior communication skills
Physically able and willing to walk on uneven terrain, to work outdoors in inclement weather and potential long hours
