The Opportunity :

Are you a strategic thinker who excels at analyzing market data, comprehends terms and conditions with confidence, and negotiates contracts effectively?

As a Contract Specialist at Canadian Natural you will have the exciting opportunity to grow your contractual knowledge and the skill set required to support our Horizon and Albian oil sands operations and maintenance activities.

You will have the chance to identify and understand commercial needs from internal stakeholders and collaboratively propose competitive solutions.

Key Accountabilities :

  • Manage the full end-to-end contracting life cycle from Request for Proposal (RFP) through to award and then post award contract management and close-out
  • Negotiate and award agreements to contractors and / or suppliers to ensure services and materials are provided in the most cost effective and proficient manner possible
  • Manage operational agreements from multiple labour affiliations and utilize internal and external data to create benchmarks and set targets with respect to the negotiation of new agreements
  • Understand and manage different elements of risk within the agreements such as financial, operational and legal
  • Manage supplier relationships effectively and collaboratively drive continuous performance improvement

  • This full-time permanent position is based in either Fort McMurray or Calgary, Alberta
  • Eligible for relocation to Calgary or Fort McMurray
  • Company sponsored Fly-In / Fly-Out Program with charter flights from Calgary or Edmonton (if work location is Fort McMurray)
  • Shift schedule : Fort McMurray (4x3 - Monday to Thursday) or Calgary (5x2 - Monday to Friday)
  • This is a safety sensitive position

  • Skills & Qualifications :

  • Typically 7+ years of contracts experience within an industrial setting, combined with a university degree or related post-secondary education
  • Strong understanding of category management, contract formation and contract administration
  • Ability to develop effective negotiation strategies that achieve customer targets while also overseeing large and complex RFx processes as well as sole / single source negotiations
  • Capability to understand and manage commercial risk, liability and legal terms and conditions
