As a member of our team, you will provide insight and innovative construction solutions to ensure the successful execution of various projects, such as education facilities;
hospitals and health care centers; office buildings; warehouse and distribution centers; and mixed-use facilities.
You will also further hone your skills operating under various delivery methods including Bid-Build, Design-Build, Construction Management and IPD (Integrated Project Delivery).
Reporting through the Shared Services group, the MEIT Estimator leads the estimating elements of Mechanical, Electrical and Integrated Technologies on higher complexity project pursuits across the company.
The incumbent, in liaison with the MEIT group, Pre-construction, Operations and the Estimating team, is accountable for determining project scopes, accurate quantifying / costing, managing deadlines, and mentoring other team members.
The incumbent must interpret all tender documents, work collaboratively, communicate clearly with the Graham team and with trade partners, and effectively delegate and manage team workloads.
The incumbent has knowledge of market conditions and historical data to lead developing strategies to secure work and compile conceptual estimates.
Develop coaching and mentoring skills with the estimating team throughout all aspects of the estimating process, specific to this expertise.
Supported by the MEIT group, determine the project scope of work.
Set-up and complete estimates in the company standard estimating program.
Contribute to preliminary construction schedules with input to help determine project duration, phasing and elements of enabling works.
Complete validation and where applicable, estimate quantification and costing, in being able to demonstrate the right value for the specific trades.
Where requested, support larger projects to assist in specific significant contract changes.
Identify options for trade selections and work packages in liaison with the operations teams. Ensure the selections meet corporate requirements and align to Contract terms.
Analyze design criteria and recommend best options based on cost, quality, and availability of materials.
Identify and propose project risk and cost mitigation as well as the potential for project opportunities and cost savings.
Liaise as applicable with the MEIT group for technical input and options.
Collaborate, analyze, review, and pursue potential strategies, providing cost advantages, or pricing of innovations for the project that could provide Graham with a more competitive overall bid.
Analyze subcontractor bids for irregularities and ensure the full scope of work is included.
Have an active role in bid closings to support other team members.
Assemble and maintain conceptual and budget costs using past project analytics, benchmarking, and historical data.
Develop scopes of work for subcontractors to support the pre-construction process.
On design-build projects, ensure that the design teams understand the estimate requirements, level of detail and timing, to meet the overall estimating functions.
Engage in subcontractor post award scope clarification and negotiation.
Planning and Process
Prepare an estimate schedule of all activities required to complete a fully quantified and costed estimate (or delegated scopes) based on a full review of the Estimate Checklist, including milestone dates and any required support resources.
Work autonomously to prioritize the work, set deliverables, and select the appropriate work execution methods.
Provide accurate assessments of risk and scope for completed estimates.
Generate, cost, and review risk mitigation plan, ensuring proper bonding and insurance costing and appropriate contingencies.
Select and invite to tender trade partners that are assessed to be financially viable with adequate manpower and appropriate level of expertise to complete the work.
Working with the Operational Groups, understand the contractor market Provincially, input into and develop a tiered grouping with them, allowing for an up to date assessment to be available.
Build and maintain relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders that reflect and support Graham core values.
Demonstrate HSE and Quality behaviours that reflect corporate expectations of Actively Caring and Road to Zero.
Identify project-specific HSEQ risks and propose mitigation plans for these items in the estimate.
Key Success Factors and Capabilities
Lead the specific element of the estimates while managing, mentoring, and informing the Estimating Managers across the Company, ensuring an understanding and accuracy of tasks are achieved, shared and objectives or goals are met.
Collaborate effectively with operations personnel such as Project Managers, Superintendents, and Project Coordinators.
Build and manage the task, creating a shared sense of cooperation and morale.
Build constructive and effective work relationships with both internal and external team members.

Remain accountable for estimating responsibilities and hold supporting estimators to the same degree of accountability.
Education, Experience and Knowledge
Techncial credential, diploma or degree; Gold Seal Certified, LEED Accredited, and LEAN experience are all assets. A relevant trade skill is beneficial in either element, with an understanding of the remaining scopes in MEIT.
Ability to understand, utilize, and communicate specialized information in speech and written text.
A combination of field and estimating experience; design-build experience and proficiency in a variety of general procurement methods is an asset.
Proficiency in the use of Graham software suite, MS Excel, scheduling software (Primavera preferred), quantification software (such as OnScreen Takeoff, Bluebeam), and BIM modelling is an asset.
Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills with strong organizational and time management abilities.
Ability to comprehend tender documents, specifications, and drawings, with an understanding of contractual requirements.
General understanding of all construction scopes of work with and in-depth understanding of MEIT scopes.
Ability to foster and develop relationships
