The Licensed Deckhand is responsible for maintenance / cleaning of the interior / exterior of the vessel. In addition, the deckhand will assist with bridge watch / navigation, perform hourly security patrols including nightly engine room inspections, and will assist with general boat operations.
This position reports to the 1st Mate and will assist the Master in communicating and enforcing all company policies and procedures.
Ship Maintenance :
Sweeps decks, washes windows and empties trash receptacles.
Cleans the public restrooms and general areas such as bulkheads, lockers, etc.
Primes and paints the vessel as assigned.
Assists the 1st Mate and Chief Engineer as directed.
May be assigned various special projects as per the Mate's work list.
Boat Operations :
Handles lines during docking and undocking procedures.
Assigned anchoring duties as needed.
Assists the bridge watch officer with lookout and wheel watch.
Assists the Bosun with lowering / raising and tying up / casting off of the inflatable boats and kayaks.
Drives inflatable boats as needed.
Assists with loading guests, staff, and crew in and out of inflatable boats.
Safety & Security :
Participates in on board safety training, meetings and drills, as directed by the Captain, including fire,
abandon ship, man overboard, flooding and medical emergencies.
Participates in shore side training as required by the company.
Conducts hourly security patrols including inspection of all lower deck, mechanical, and crew spaces.
Serves as needed on gangway watch.
Familiar with all duties under the company Safety Management System including Emergency Response
Additional Duties :
Loads / off-loads guest luggage.
Hauls ship's trash, laundry, and stores as needed.
Pulls, cleans and replaces the galley mats, cleans the galley deck and washes any used galley rags.

Mechanical aptitude and interest.
Maritime / boating experience preferred.

Licenses / Certificates :
USCG 25 Ton Master (or greater) license- required
Current First Aid / CPR certification - required
Valid US passport - required
STCW Basic Safety Training - preferred.
STCW Crowd Management - preferred.
Current Basic & Advanced Fire Fighting certification - preferred
All vessel positions can be physically demanding. Bending, climbing, repetitive motion, and heavy lifting are requirements of most vessel positions.
Every crew member works varied shifts, which could be as much as 12 hours a day, every day while on board.
