POSITION SUMMARY :

Reporting to the Vice-President, Enterprise Strategy and Sustainability, the Sustainability Director plays a leadership role in the establishment, implementation and monitoring of the ESG strategy for the entire Cogeco organization in Canada and the US.

S / he will work in close collaboration with the corporate management team as well as the different business units in order to define the methodology and strategy for prioritizing and scaling up the various ESG initiatives.

S / he will have an unshakable conviction that ESG can have a positive impact not only on the company from an environmental, social and governance perspective but on society as a whole as well.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

Manage the performance of senior advisors sustainability under his / her direction.

Define and steer Cogeco’s ESG strategy based on priorities established by management for each ESG component, i.e. environment, social, governance.

Develop and monitor performance indicators relating to the ESG strategy and related tactical plan.

Ensure consultation with the company’s internal and external stakeholders and carry out a materiality analysis.

Review and, if needed, update the organization’s ESG policy and ensure the policy’s implementation in the different business units.

Develop and ensure the monitoring and updating of the organization’s plan for the reduction of greenhouse gases in order to maintain the trajectory required to meet reduction targets aligned to climate science and the zero net zero emissions target.

Provide the support required by the different business units for the implementation of various ESG initiatives.

Manage the process for reporting to Cogeco’s management team and board of directors as well as its sub-committees on the progress of the ESG plan (including performance as it relates to established indicators).

Oversee the drafting of various internal and external communications on ESG (including the production of the annual ESG report and Cogeco’s Climate Action Plan).

Manage ESG disclosure in the organization’s annual documents (annual report, proxy circular, annual information form, etc.

quarterly if necessary).

Coordinate responses to various external requests for information (investors, ESG rankers and raters, etc.).

Work closely with the Procurement Department to identify and implement sustainable procurement initiatives.

Monitor best practices in the telecom industry in order to identify and seize opportunities for improvement.

Develop and oversee the implementation of the best strategies for informing and engaging employees on ESG initiatives.

Keep abreast of all federal, provincial and local requirements relating to the environment and closely monitor developments and changes.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS :

ACADEMIC TRAINING

Bachelor of Applied Science or a field related to sustainability. A combination of academic training and relevant work experience would be desirable.

WORK EXPERIENCE :

At least 10 years of experience, particularly relevant experience in the management of an ESG program.

Experience in the preparation of CDP and ESG reports.

GHG calculation experience.

Resource management experience.

ASSETS :

In-depth knowledge of the ESG rankers and raters ecosystem.

Very good knowledge of GRI, SASB and TCFD standards.

Good team management ability

Resourceful personality and experience working both independently and in collaboration with executives and other management levels

Significant ability to synthesize, popularize and communicate observations at every level of the organization

Excellent interpersonal skills with a natural ability to forge relationships

Discretion, discipline, maturity and professionalism required

Very good sense of initiative, judgement and tact

Ability to analyze data and trends

Excellent spoken and written communication techniques, in both French and English

Ability to moderate and coordinate meetings and groups, including interactions with Cogeco’s management team and members of its board of directors.
