What is the opportunity?

We’re looking for an experienced backend Tech Lead who will be working on building products that will part of RBC’s Next Generation Solution delivery.

As a Tech Lead, you’ll be working with a first-class team and brilliant minds in tackling extremely challenging problems while delivering a high level of application and product knowledge, technical expertise and problem solving unique to one or more area(s), acting as a trusted resource for less-

experienced department personnel.

What will you do?

  • Set the technical direction for all development, maintenance and architecture initiatives, ensuring adherence to overall IT architectural direction.
  • Provide expert consulting on technical and managerial direction for strategic projects with a focus on cross-divisional strategies.
  • Function as an in-house consultant / expert for the resolution of complex technical issues
  • Perform code review of the code delivered in-house, ensuring adherence to RBC IT policies and guidelines.
  • In collaboration with other stakeholders, determine the best mix of development, interfacing applications and third party vendor solutions to meet business requirements and project objectives.
  • Develop criteria to evaluate third party vendors and software and develop due diligence exercises, conducing due diligence for very complex projects and overseeing the diligence process for less complex projects.
  • What do you need to succeed?


  • 4+ years of experience with different programming languages (e.g. Java / Spring Framework / Node.js / Angular.js / React.
  • js / HTML / JavaScript / Python / T-SQL) and 2+ years of lead experience

  • 3+ years of experience in NodeJs + Express developing scalable backend solution
  • Experience in Javascript testing frameworks such as supertest, jest, jasmine, mocha
  • Experience with micro services architecture platforms
  • Experience with Cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Pivotal)
  • Experience with DevOps capabilities (e.g. Jenkins, Maven, Chef, Puppet, UrbanCode)
  • Experience providing guidance and support to developers within a team
  • Experience with SQL, NoSQL and Big Data platforms (e.g. Cassandra, Mongo DB)
  • Experience with source control (e.g. Git, SVN) managing processes around features, fixes, and releases
  • Nice-to-have

  • Experience with the Agile Methodology
  • Experience with GraphQL and Prisma
  • Experience with frontend Javascript technologies such as React, Angular, Vue
