Canada's first integrated Propane Dehydrogenation / Polypropylene complex. This $3.5 billion Complex, which will be situated on a 233-
acre site in Alberta’s Industrial Heartland, will take low value propane and convert it into high value recyclable polypropylene pellets.
These pellets will be transported to manufacturing plants for commercial use in plastic products here in Canada and around the world.
The Heartland Petrochemical Complex is scheduled to be operational in late 2021.
Initially located out of our Calgary office the role will transition to the Heartland Petrochemical Complex (HPC) site. The individual in the Senior Rotating Equipment Engineer role will report to the Technical Services Manager.
The Senior Rotating Equipment Engineer is an experienced subject matter expert, with responsibility for becoming familiar with the unique technical aspects of the Propane Dehydration (PDH), Polypropylene (PP) and Central Utility Block (CUB) facilities and the rotating equipment ordered for these facilities.
The initial goal for this position is to provide end user input into design, preservation, commissioning and start-up planning, sparing, component refurbishment and inventory requirements to mitigate unplanned outages at the Complex.
After start up, the main responsibilities would be operational support and continuous improvement of reliability for site rotating equipment.
Key Activities and Responsibilities :
Pre Start Up :
Become familiar with the unique aspects of the PDH, PP and CUB facilities and how they relate to the rotating equipment needs
Review and make recommendations to the Project Development Team for specifying and selecting rotating equipment to be purchased and installed at the facility
Identify and make recommendations for rotating equipment sparing and inventory requirements to mitigate unplanned outage time at the operating facility
Develop and approve preventative maintenance timing and scope of work for the facility rotating equipment
Review and approve preservation plans for facility rotating equipment to manage the assets integrity from delivery through to start up
Support the development of data collection and monitoring systems for reliable operation of the facility rotating equipment
Support the Commissioning Team on aspects related to rotating equipment as well as other areas of Mechanical Engineering such as flange integrity with bolt up
Post Start Up :
Maintain accurate long term service plans for all plant major rotating equipment
Coordinate a program of equipment performance and condition monitoring to track changes and optimize equipment life and reliability
Maintain an accurate account of the service hours of major equipment as it relates to overhaul planning and condition monitoring
Develop, implement, and continually improve preventive maintenance programs for rotating equipment
Participate and support initiatives to improve safety culture at all levels of operations.
Assist with Preventative and Predictive Maintenance plans development related to rotating equipment
Analyze, troubleshoot, and solve mechanical / rotating equipment problems and issues together with plant teams.
Lead investigations into rotating equipment failures and complete reports and recommendations on preventative measures.
Interface with engineering, service, and vendor companies on rotating equipment issues and obtain required information to support the issues at hand.
Assist other project teams as required to ensure mechanical / rotating equipment matters are handled appropriately and site needs are addressed.
Education, Skills and Experience :
10 or more years of industry-related experience in the field of rotating equipment
Experience with large scale integrated facilities
Registered or eligible for registration with APEGA
Preferred candidate will have experience in commissioning and start-up of new equipment as well as experience with providing rotating equipment maintenance to facilities in sustained operating phases
Preference will be given to candidates with previous petrochemical experience including large turbo machinery and specialized polypropylene production equipment.
