Intermediate Environmental Consultant, Environmental Services Group

The Hatch Environmental Services Group (ESG) undertakes studies and delivers environmental services in the areas of Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs), planning, permitting, construction management, community engagement, sustainability / corporate social responsibility, climate change and related project delivery services.

Our wealth of engineering, environmental, procurement and construction management experience and our global footprint is highly differentiated in the growing environmental services market.

We are currently seeking an Intermediate Environmental Consultant to join the ESG team in our Vancouver office. The person who accepts this role will be working with senior leaders in our ESG group across Canada to execute and deliver projects and help to build client relationships.

The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to :

Essential :

  • Permitting experience with federal, provincial and local (municipal and conservation authority) permitting and approvals processes.
  • Strong understanding of terrestrial, wetland, marine and / or aquatic ecosystems and approaches to assessing potential project effects and proposed mitigation measures.
  • Work with senior leaders to help grow opportunities of our existing environmental consulting practice in the areas of ESIAs, permitting and environmental management.
  • Project coordination of key environmental deliverables.
  • Assist in project management, resource planning, mentorship to project junior teams.
  • Work collaboratively with an integrated, multidisciplinary teams, liaising and supporting global peers.
  • Skills and Qualifications :

  • Post-Secondary Education in Biology, planning, environmental science, or environmental management or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 6-10 years of experience managing and delivering environmental assessments, inventories and / or permitting.
  • Demonstrated project execution and client engagement experience.
  • Well-versed in defendable or standardized survey methodologies and a thorough understanding of Provincial and Federal permitting and approvals and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in wildlife and / or aquatic surveys is considered a valuable asset
  • Organized and detail oriented, with an ability to take initiative.
  • Entrepreneurial with a technical soul.
  • Effectively managing internal and external stakeholders.
  • Effective, open communication and presentation style with the ability to plan and deliver best in class, high quality deliverables.
  • Preferred :

  • Postgraduate qualifications in a related discipline.
  • Understanding of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act and provincial environmental assessment processes.
  • Project coordination and management on large projects and EPCM experience.
  • Ability to be flexible, learn and perform challenging tasks outside their area of skills and experience.
