We are seeking a motivated employee to join our Health & Safety Team at our printing facility in Calgary. Our Health, Safety and Wellness Resource reports to our Plant Manager, and has an active role working with the team in our production environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

This position is critical to support and lead the implementation of health, safety and wellness policies and programs for the business unit.

Serve as the health and safety subject matter resource with employees, operations and regulators.

The HSW Resource participates in the Division Health, Safety and Wellness steering committees and provides guidance and counsel to the Plant and HR Managers on sites to meet our vision of Everyone Home Safe Health Every Day".

Primary responsibilities are :

  • Act as a HSW Resource for their home site
  • Support audits and site visits and write comprehensive reports
  • Follow-up on incidents and review investigations to ensure identification of root causes and adequate corrective actions and review safety alerts
  • Participate in HSW strategy and program development (sector and corporate).
  • Support and monitor the risk assessment process.
  • Support assigned sites in programs implementation and review
  • Ensure sites alignment with sector priorities, programs and policy
  • Develop, implement and promote health and safety policy and programs to provide a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Provide leadership and be a resource to the initiatives and activities of the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Monitor and review workplace inspections, site visits, hazard identifications, program audits, critical task analysis, incident / accident investigations and implement subsequent action plans and follow up.
  • Ensure management of Workers’ Compensation Board claims, including the submission of required paperwork, evaluation of modified positions to determine suitability for safe and timely return to work programs in conjunction with medical practitioners, supervisors and maintain proactive measures for claim cost containment
  • Produce reports and statistical information, analyze trends and present findings and / or recommendations to management in regard to minimizing risk of injury
  • Research and make recommendations on new trends and techniques for enhancing workplace health and safety
  • Liase with and build relationships with all relevant external government agencies
  • Adhere to 5S workplace organization standards
  • Required QUALIFICATIONS :

  • 3 5 years’ successful Health & Safety experience in a multi function environment, preferably manufacturing
  • In-depth knowledge of OHS laws and regulations Alberta / Canada.
  • Sound knowledge of Iso 45001 standards.
  • Sound knowledge of HSW management systems and audit processes
  • College or University diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or related discipline
  • Knowledge and experience in the practical implementation of WCB policies
  • Experience with Cority EHS Software considered an asset
  • Disability management and design of modified work programs experience preferred
  • Effective communication skills both oral and written
  • Effective organization and presentation skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate and influence at all levels
