The Development Manager – Ottawa Region will oversee all activities related to the planning, design, and development approvals on five separate properties that constitute over 1,100 units of purpose-built rental housing and 20,000 sqft of commercial space.  The position will serve as the focal point of contact with city administration, community groups and developers on land use and property development issues. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with the Property Acquisitions department to analyze prospective sites to determine suitability, timing, and steps required for municipal approval
  • Present reports and make recommendations to the Executive team to facilitate decision making with respect to development and development approvals of the real estate portfolio
  • Work with the Design department to develop efficient and effective sites and review concept plans for conformance to applicable zoning, bylaws, and municipal and provincial regulations
  • Review and manage project schedules as they pertain to Property Development activities; prioritize work schedules and communicate priorities to Development and Design departments
  • Manage scope of work and work schedules for third party consultants as required
  • Oversee and manage all applications including rezoning, subdivisions, site plan control, and building permits
  • Work with planners and city administration on city processes and approvals
  • Ensure administrative and regulatory duties such as rezoning, development permit, and building permits are managed efficiently
  • Liaises with city or government agencies and community groups on property matters related to the Company
  • Attend relevant meetings representing company interests
  • Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with all city and administration staff

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Post-secondary education in Urban and Regional Planning
  • Minimum 2 years progressive responsibility in Planning and Property Development
  • Project Management background
  • Must be knowledgeable in laws, ordinances, regulations etc., which govern real estate, procurement principles and practices and other related activities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccinations
