The Corporate Development team helps shape TELUS’ strategy, focus exploration, and accelerate TELUS’ profitable growth by catalyzing scale through transformative acquisitions and organic growth and partnering with business units to reshape the business portfolios.

Here's the impact you'll make and what we'll accomplish together The Mergers and Acquisition (M&A) team supports a wide range of strategic initiatives related to inorganic growth of business units of the corporation as a whole, by way of acquisition, divestiture, joint venture and other structures.

The team leads the review, analysis and approval process of corporate transactions, supports BU strategy efforts involving inorganic growth and provides ongoing thought partnership support to key executives.

Here's how As a Senior Corporate Development Manager , you will will support a wide range of strategic initiatives related to inorganic growth by leading reviews, analyses and the approval processes of corporate transactions and bringing your flawless verbal and written communication skills to present the findings and recommendations to senior management which will enable them to make informed business decisions that enhance the organization’s capability to compete effectively in the marketplace and generate significant shareholder value.

Your critical role encompasses :

  • Identifying, evaluating, negotiating, and performing due diligence
  • Executing, implementing and monitoring activities relating to inorganic growth opportunities, including mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures and other structures for TELUS
  • Recognizing environmental changes which may preclude the attainment of the strategic objectives of new business opportunities and present findings to senior leaders
  • Working closely with the Post-Merger Integration team to determine key risks post close that should be addressed during the due diligence phase of a transaction
  • Developing business cases, sophisticated financial projections, analysis and valuation of potential significant business opportunities including acquisitions and divestitures
  • Gathering and coordinating data to understand the impact to TELUS financials by interacting closely with strategic financial analysis, corporate accounting and taxation
  • Leading medium projects (typically in the range of $5M - $50M) or multiple smaller more complex projects with minimal Director guidelines while playing a big role in the negotiation process
  • Taking ownership of more complex files and play a leading role with BU involvement on projects with higher impact to TELUS
  • Qualifications

  • Your interest and understanding in the Telecommunications, IT, Health and Business Process Outsourcing Sectors, including market dynamics, key drivers, awareness of products and services, and significant trends going forward
  • Your strong analytical skills and ability to provide your perspective to situations with confidence
  • Your comfort taking ambiguous input to develop sound analysis and conclusions in writing and presentations
  • Your curiosity to appropriately question and challenge the status-quo resulting in driving higher business value
  • Your collaborative spirit and ability effectively manage relationships confidently across the organization and engage and influence a diverse set of stakeholders and experts in sharing information to overcome obstacles and achieve objectives
  • Your passion for mentorship and developing junior team members and rotation students
  • 3-7 years of professional related experience
  • Undergraduate degree in relevant field, Professional designation (e.g. CPA, CFA)
  • Strong Financial Acumen with an excellent understanding of basic financial concepts
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with financial statements (ratio analysis, performance return measures)
  • Strong understanding of financial valuation methodologies (Discounted Cash Flow, precedent transaction, comparable company analysis, LBO analysis)
  • Superior financial modelling including ability to develop driver based FCF models including NPV and ROI analysis
  • Great-to-haves..

  • Knowledge of the scope of TELUS’ current and emerging products and services
  • Expert knowledge of CapitalIQ and other corporate finance related tools and systems
  • An ability to work well in a virtual team environment and have the ability to influence Business Unit decision making
