Casual Food & Beverage II opportunities are available immediately at the Kerry Park Recreation Centre within the South Cowichan Recreation Division of the Community Services Department at the Cowichan Valley Regional District.

Reporting to the Food & Beverage Coordinator, the Food & Beverage II provides pleasant, professional customer service to patrons and performs cooking and / or bartending, cashiering, dishwashing and bussing for the Social Lounge, concessions and event catering operations of the Food & Beverage Section.

The Food & Beverage II prepares and serves all food and / or alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, as instructed, ensuring the proper preparation, handing and storage of all food and beverage related products and assists in providing direction to Food & Beverage I workers.

Qualifications

Secondary school graduation or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Food Safe Level I, Serving It Right, and First Aid Level I with CPR certificates as well as a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and a satisfactory criminal record check.

Possess mixology experience as well as short-order and banquet cooking experience. Line cooking experience would be an asset.

  • Possess knowledge in one or more of the areas / functions of the position (bartending and the mixing of drinks, cooking and food preparation, concession services);
  • knowledge of cashiering functions and knowledge of concession and kitchen equipment and how it is used and maintained. The successful candidate will possess the ability to : prepare and serve all food and / or alcoholic beverages ensuring the proper preparation, handing and storage of all food and beverage products;
  • establish and maintain courteous, tactful, diplomatic working relationships with other employees, and the general public;
  • engage in effective interpersonal communications both verbally and in writing, including problem solving, conflict resolution, and customer service;
  • team lead a function with little or no supervision; accurately and efficiently process monetary transactions including operating a cash register, interac and credit card machines as well as handling cash and making change;
  • familiarize, remain current with, interpret and follow CVRD and any other applicable Federal or Provincial rules, regulations policies and procedures including Worksafe BC, the Province of British Columbia Liquor Control Board and the BC Health Standards Act;
  • and, be flexible in terms of working hours / days.
