Trimac Transportation is seeking an experienced Transportation Safety Manager to join our team! The ideal candidate will have superior knowledge of working in the transportation industry, working with operations and leading the team to promote and enhance the company's safety culture.


The Manager, Safety establishes and promotes the maintenance of a safe, accident-free, healthy work environment and works toward the minimization of an accident, cargo, on-

the-job injury, and safety-related costs.

The position is accountable for (including but not limited to) supporting the development, implementation and execution of the Safety Plan Initiatives (Training Programs, Compliance Verification, Incident Investigation and Emergency Response, Safety Performance communication, and Customer / Industry interaction) and achieving the plan targets (personal injury frequency and severity, vehicle accident frequency, claim costs as % of revenue, etc.

In addition, this position is also accountable for developing an environment that adheres to the companies Safety, Health, Environmental and Security policies.


  • Carry out risk assessments and make a recommendation on how risks could be reduced;
  • Outline safe operational procedures which identify and take into account all relevant hazards;
  • Coordinate and participate in at a distance Job Task Observation (JTO) campaigns to determine all drivers, Lease Operators, and Lease Operator drivers are in compliance with policies and procedures;
  • recommend corrective actions if required. The corrective actions are product line specific and customer driven.

  • Prepare health and safety strategies and develop internal policy;
  • Lead in-house training with managers and employees regarding health and safety issues and risks;
  • Assist and ensure branches are maintaining employee safety training records; keeping records of inspection findings and producing reports that suggest improvements;
  • Keep records of incidents and accidents and producing statistics for managers;
  • Remain up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all Health, Safety, and Environment legislation and any developments that affect our industry;
  • Accountable for identifying management processes

  • The minimum education or formal training for this position includes the following Provincial / Federal or other vocational or professional certification, trade license, apprenticeship or degree :
  • Mandatory High School Diploma
  • Experience in the transportation industry required
  • Preferred Bachelors Degree
  • Must hold license or certification in the following :

  • Fall arrest
  • Respiratory fit test
  • Train the Trainer in both TDG and WHMIS
  • First Aid Responder
  • Emergency Response Product Transfer
  • A valid Class 1 Drivers License is required.
  • A current passport may be required
  • Ability to use a computer and electronic devices (including iPhone / iPad) and software including but not limited to MS Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Internet Explorer and internal operating systems as required by the product line / business unit.

    Previous experience / knowledge in Occupational Health and Safety and other applicable legislation and government policies would be considered an asset.

    Work Availability

  • Must be able to travel
  • Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such levels as determined by management
  • Must be available and willing to work evenings, weekends and holidays when the needs arise and in order to meet business needs
