Among those solutions, the company develops and delivers integrated bridge systems for warships, integrated dived navigation systems for submarines, and C2 systems for small craft.

Presently, 23 navies totaling more than 600 warships and submarines operate using OSI systems.

The Job

The Software Team Leaders at OSI have the primary responsibility of providing technical leadership of an engineering team to ensure quality development of the software products.

The Software Development International Lead supports the Software Engineering Manager in cultivating and maintaining an optimal software engineering program and liaises with an Offshore team on behalf of the Manager.

The Lead is a key contributor and leader in the successful release of the OSI product line.

The Lead will demonstrate professionalism and instill the idea of integrity and ownership on their team. The Lead is available to assist their team when technical roadblocks are discovered and provide guidance to pivot and change direction as needed to ensure productivity.

The Lead should embody the core technical competencies required to achieve excellence in the marine navigation market. The Lead will grow and mentor their team, and also handle conflicts and performance issues.

The Software Offshore Development Lead demonstrates strong communication skills and interpersonal skills. The Lead will plan and scope the work, delegate the work, and motivate the team to complete the work on time and on budget providing regular reports to management.

This position will likely work odd hours to ensure overlap with the Offshore office hours and the OSI head office teams and Managers.

Main Responsibilities :

  • Serve as the primary role to lead and communicate with the Offshore Development Team and to bridge connections with other teams in head office.
  • Actively assist with the resolution in complex technical challenges.
  • Mentor and develop employees’ technical skill set within their team to ensure ongoing professional growth and skill advancement.
  • Scope, estimate, organize and plan the work packages for the offshore team, providing details that ensure the work is done correctly the first time.
  • Interface with the Offshore team to assist in defect resolution.
  • Ensure technical solutions consider both the projects budget, schedule, and the product vision.
  • Maintain an ongoing comprehensive understanding of the product, from an operational and technical perspective.
  • Interact with Project Managers and other Technical Leads to assess the technical complexities of the system.
  • Ensure the best practices for source code development are followed.
  • Maintain product design integrity and compliance with requirement specifications
  • Chair or participate in project reviews with Project Managers and Stakeholders providing status reports on development and communicate resolutions to problems discovered by the Team.
  • Escalate problems to the Software Authority that cannot be resolved at the team level.
  • Support Offshore recruitment efforts within the Software Engineering team
  • Build strong team work and advocate for the offshore team.
  • Work with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance of OSI navigation products.
  • Ensure that Company engineering and ISO 9001 procedures and policies are adhered to at all times and all exceptions are immediately reported to the Software Engineering Manager
  • Ensure compliance with workplace operating, environmental, health and safety procedures and guidelines
  • You Bring :

  • Education : Degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering or Engineering Physics
  • Experience : Min 10 years’ experience in a software environment; At least 2 years’ experience liaising with an Offshore Team.
  • Experience in developing large complex applications; Experience working in an ISO 9001 compliant software engineering environment would be an asset

  • Skills : Experience leading a Development Team. Experience in C / C++ development under Windows in areas such as graphics, Knowledge of complex software used to build sophisticated distributed systems.
  • Knowledge in TCP / IP, GPS, and real-time systems are highly desirable; Ability to understand and work with complex software requirement specifications;
  • Strong theoretical and algorithmic background with experience in mathematical and / or geospatial applications; Ability to assist with analysis and design of solutions for algorithmically complex requirements;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Ability to learn quickly and work well under pressure in a high paced, challenging environment;
  • Strong team work skills; Knowledge of marine navigation concepts and systems is an asset
