Nature and scope
The YMCA believes in strong kids, and every kid comes home from camp more confident, more responsible and more caring. For kids aged five to fifteen, the YMCA has a camp suited to meet their needs and expectations.
At YMCA Summer Camps, we strive to offer the highest quality programs for children and youth through a variety of safe and fun activities supervised by qualified and energetic staff.
All camping programs at YMCA promote personal growth and development with a focus on the YMCA core values of respect, responsibility, inclusiveness, caring, honesty, and health.
YMCA Cedar Glen Outdoor Centre is a 263 acre site that has three significant program focuses : summer camp programs, year round outdoor education programs, and year round leadership training programs.
The Senior Food Services Team Member prepares food for groups up to 500+ along with maintaining cleanliness of kitchen and equipment, following established health and safety procedures.
This position provides assistance to food services staff during their shift. The Senior Food Services Team Member also provides assistance to the supervisor as required with inventory management, monitoring food and supplies inventories.
Provide friendly, prompt customer service.
Ensures completion of food preparation, cooking, serving, and delivering snacks; assists supervisor with menu planning.
Responsible for following food safety procedures when preparing meals, ensure temperatures are correct, the quality and quantity of food is in accordance to the standards and procedures and production sheets.
Responsible for providing food which is attractive, balanced and age appropriate.
Responsible for providing food substitutions for guests with dietary restrictions and cultural needs; Ensures awareness of guests’ food allergies and restrictions and provision of substitute food.
Responsible for keeping the kitchen clean and in good order in accordance with the established maintenance schedule, meeting the guidelines of the Public Health Department and the Occupational Health & Safety Act;
maintains a safe environment for food and equipment.
Assists in the washing of dishes and food packaging containers.
Assists supervisor with food and supplies ordering with vendors within established schedules.
Assists monitoring inventory, identifies supplies / food replenishments requires to supervisors.
Assists in storage of supplies using the first in first out method, rotating stock; ensures proper storage of products.
Continuously builds relationships with members, staff, volunteers and community partners.
Assists with general maintenance and cleanliness of site and provides support with other duties as required.
Demonstrates appropriate behaviours in line with our Mission, Vision and Values as reflected in our YMCA competencies;
takes a member focused approach to increase their understanding of programs offered across the Association.Represents the YMCA and the Association in a professional manner.
Understands the legal responsibilities and moral imperative to report suspected child abuse to Children's Aid Society.
Understands the importance of the volunteer staff partnership and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors and staff.
Other duties as assigned
Working towards and / or completion of some Post-Secondary courses in related field is an asset
Experience in institutional cooking is an asset
Current Standard First Aid and CPR as well as Food Handlers Certificate required
Strong communication skills

Bilingualism (French / English) is an asset
Able to participate actively in a team for organizational effectiveness
Well developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers

Experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds, including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity
WHMIS certification is an asset
Job offers are contingent upon the successful completion of a Police Records Check. Within the first four months and every three years thereafter, a Vulnerable Police Records Check is required.
