We are adding a Principal, Global Strategic Relationships in our Toronto office. The Principal position plays a key role in supporting the Global Strategic Relationships Department’s efforts to increase the Fund’s global competitiveness.
In collaboration with the broader GSR team you will help increase the Fund’s ability to adapt, learn and diversify its channels of information and origination by promoting greater global horizontal connectivity, strategic capacity and a relationship-centric approach that thinks beyond the deal’ timeframe.
The Principal is central to these efforts in North America and with the global team in Asia and Europe.
Who you’ll work with
Based in Toronto, you will be joining as a member of the Global Strategic Relationships Department, which is part of the CIO Office and reports directly to a member of the Investments Executive Team.
You will work with the senior leadership of GSR to implement GSR’s strategy and will collaborate with the team to meet the overall goals of the department.
This Principal will have the unique opportunity to work collaboratively across all asset classes and regions, to seamlessly deliver outcomes vital to Ontario Teachers’ global organization.
Working as part of a small global team, it is essential that you be collaborative and team-oriented, with an acute sense of building and leveraging relationships (both external and internal) and seizing opportunities that will benefit Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan as a whole.
What you’ll do
Work with the GSR team to develop and implement key strategic projects
Build strong internal relationships across all investment departments and offices
Support the senior GSR team as it builds strong relationships with existing and prospective counterparts
Assist GSR leadership as it executes on key relationship and strategy mandates (e.g. Latin America (LATAM Hub), banking relationships (Bank Hub) and the Teachers’ Innovation Platform (TIP))
Work closely with the GSR team in developing approaches to key geographies of focus for Ontario Teachers’; participate in Fund-wide Focus Country Committee
Develop cross-asset class / cross-regional analytics, driving meaningful insights into the Fund’s global strategy and developing recommendations for use by the Fund leadership
Help develop GSR’s junior team members
What you need
Strong understanding of nexus between investments and global political and economic affairs
Minimum 5 years of work experience in banking, investing, or global political, economic, or management consultant advisory related to large, global private or public sector institutions
Significant exposure to strategy development
Exposure to investments, especially in context of working with large or institutions
An understanding of the organizational behaviour of large, global financial institutions and a track record of success navigating complexity and achieving positive change
An understanding of corporate and / or investment banks as global institutions would be an asset
Strong academic background; degrees in business and social science an asset
Relevant work experience advising / working within large organizations on broad, long-term strategy and relationship development
A strong interest in global affairs a major asset
Exceptional interpersonal, communication and presentation skills (both oral and written)
Strong team player and willingness to develop other team members
Ability to represent the CIO Office internally, and OTPP externally, given GSR’s high profile both inside and outside the Fund
Ability to balance competing priorities, work independently, manage projects and thrive in a high-performance, high-impact global team
