KEY OBJECTIVE(S) :

Reporting to the Retail Controller, this individual will aid in the oversight of financial reporting, the internal control environment, budgeting & forecasting, and management & maintenance of key external organizational relationships for West Edmonton Mall.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Completing month-end and year-end close of financial statements.
  • Managing the production of the yearly budgets and meeting with all department heads and key stakeholders to ensure budgets prepared are reasonable and accurate.
  • Forecasting and monitoring spending and performing budget variance analysis while reporting results to the Senior Leadership team and aiding department heads with any areas of concern.
  • Liaising with external auditors, providing supporting working papers for complex accounts and resolving audit findings (if any).
  • Supporting Accounting Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation.
  • Staying up to date with accounting principles and reviewing and interpreting complex accounting standards.
  • Reviewing complex leases and ensuring they are properly set up in the accounting system (MRI).
  • Looking for and evaluating proposed operational optimization opportunities as they arise.
  • Providing leadership, guidance and supervision to staff by communicating department vision, work and core deliverables.
  • Performing annual and periodic performance reviews for staff and acting as a point of contact for guidance and mentorship.
  • Establishing processes and internal controls to ensure the integrity of financial information.
  • Evaluating, implementing and streamlining policies, procedures & controls.
  • Working closely with the Leadership team to facilitate efficient and effective company-wide Accounting operations.
  • Completing month-end accounts receivable review and supporting the Accounts Receivable team with collection objectives and concerns.
  • Reviewing monthly payroll reconciliations and ensuring proper accounting related practices are followed.
  • DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Five (5+) years of related financial management experience and full-cycle accounting.
  • Completion of a related post-secondary Education in the Accounting field.
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) is required.
  • Extensive knowledge in the area of strategic planning, budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • The proven ability to communicate and work effectively with all levels of management and staff across the organization and external to the organization.
  • Commercial real estate experience is an asset.
  • Highly proficient in Outlook, Excel and Word with the ability to adapt to other software programs as required with previous experience utilizing MRI Real Estate software as an asset.
  • Detailed oriented and a strong communicator that can work independently and as a part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • A professional attitude and corporate demeanor with excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills and a strong attention to accuracy in the workplace.
  • TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT :

  • This is a full-time position that is required Monday through Friday, 8 : 30am 5pm.
  • This is a salaried position that will depend on experience and qualifications.
  • Must be able to pass a basic security clearance.
