Position Summary

Miovision is looking for a Software Development Manager responsible for supporting our Traffic Engineering (TE) development team.

The products built by this team are used for project and data management and built for traffic data collection. They help users coordinate traffic data requests, organize, store and visualize data, and share files to collaborate with colleagues.

In 2019, we processed over 150,000 hours of video and delivered it to our customers to analyze. TE is a stable business unit with ambitious growth plans and this is an opportunity to grow and lead multiple development teams.

Reporting to our VP, Engineering, you will play a critical role in guiding great people, honing development methodologies, planning for resources and team growth, and ultimately delivering quality products.

At Miovision, this role is also instrumental in helping their team articulate and champion their own vision.

Key Accountabilities

  • Participate in regular company planning cycles including team resourcing, budget and contribution to product scope and roadmaps.
  • Foster team growth, emerging leadership, continuing education and improvements of your team's skills
  • Lead all aspects of your team's software development lifecycle, working to improve processes and practices.
  • Work closely with product managers and segment leaders to ensure cross-team alignment, focus and delivery.
  • Contribute ideas and foster innovation while supporting planned development
  • Manage the team’s engineering budget including compensation, product development and production activities.
  • Develop plans to improve engineering and QA efficiency, including test plans and quality.
  • Look for and recommend training and personal development opportunities for team members and self.
  • Skills / Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience managing software development teams
  • A commitment to nurturing a team and growing individuals
  • Demonstrated technical expertise
  • Strong leadership, consulting, communication, and conflict management skills to build consensus with project leaders and stakeholders.
  • Strategic planning and decision analysis capabilities, emphasising quantitative or data-driven approaches.
  • Proven project management and integration skills (certification is a bonus); ability to coordinate all aspects of a project or program.
  • Opinions about the best tools and KPIs for tracking development, quality, etc.
  • Additional Assets

  • Background as a software developer, ideally in the context of a customer-facing product
  • Familiarity with site reliability and scalability factors
  • Expertise with extracting and using system data to inform decisions
