Your role : Reporting to the Chief Editor, News Radio and Audio, you will work as a Journalist / Presenter based in Rimouski.
You will produce and present regional, national and international newscasts, headlines, news flashes and news specials, as well as conduct interviews, in keeping with corporate standards and policies.
You will also produce and present audio segments for digital platforms.The successful candidate may be asked to perform the duties of National Lineup Editor and could also be required to assign reporters across a large territory as well as plan the weekend’s cross-platform news coverage with the rest of the team.
Work schedule : You will be required to work weekends, early mornings or evenings. Working hours may vary to accommodate production requirements.
Keep up with international, national and regional news stories through various sources.
Actively participate in production meetings : discuss story ideas and present your opinions.
Write and edit copy (intros, briefs, headlines, etc.), ensuring factual accuracy and language quality.
Review research greens. Alone or with others, select guests and determine interview plans. Conduct interviews.
Depending on the assignment, research, select and vet stories for news flashes, determining the order of broadcast.
Prepare live hits with reporters.
Present and read news headlines and bulletins. Conduct live interviews. Host news specials.
Make the appropriate announcements when a problem occurs on air and ensure the continuity of the newscast or program.
Develop and maintain a network of sources.
Inform newsroom management of any event that deserves a news flash or special coverage.
Depending on the program mandate, produce reports : suggest story angles, conduct interviews, select clips, write copy, and do narration.
Supervise editing, as needed. Perform basic editing tasks for radio.
Fully produce and publish online audio segments for digital platforms.
Occasionally participate in public events at the Corporation’s request (season previews, open houses, talks and symposiums).
Carry out all other related tasks as needed.
You must provide a demo that reflects the criteria associated with the job posting. We are looking for a candidate with the following : A) Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
Five (5) years’ journalism experience or the equivalent.
At least one year’s relevant on-air experience (doing live hits, producing reports, presenting newscasts or hosting programs, conducting interviews).
Excellent team player who possesses strong leadership skills.
Extensive general knowledge.
Excellent knowledge of current affairs.
Superior French-language skills.
Advanced oral proficiency, intermediate writing proficiency and advanced reading proficiency in English.
Proficient understanding of writing styles appropriate for each platform, as well as interview techniques.
Excellent understanding of CBC / Radio-Canada’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.
Comfortable on-air presence.
