Your Challenge
EXP is currently seeking an individual to join our Arctic Engineering Design Group in the capacity of an Arctic Engineering Designer.
The position is open to applicants across Canada. This individual will join a team of engineering practitioners with a passion for work in the Arctic and the interest in improving the level of infrastructure for the people living in the Arctic.
Your Responsibilities
Working closely with the Arctic engineering practitioners in Ottawa and elsewhere in Canada provide planning, design and construction related contributions for roads, water and sanitation projects in the Canadian Arctic
Undertake project designs, specifications, and contract documents on Arctic Projects at a Project Manager’s direction
Prepare and or oversea reports, drawings, and specifications (where applicable) for submission, as well as provide engineering calculations, as-builts, ensuring drawings meet specifications provided
Assisting in obtaining all necessary approvals and permits for projects, including those from municipalities, territorial and federal government agencies
Assisting in general engineering support during construction and commissioning phases of the project, including liaising with internal Field Services team as needed
Attending and collaborating with staff, client and project meetings as required
Leading design teams, including AutoCAD and field staff, as required
Occasional multi day travel associated with the project activities in the Arctic
The Skills, Knowledge and Abilities We Seek
Experience in project management, civil / environmental engineering design, contract administration, commissioning activities, working on a variety of municipal infrastructure projects
Must have professional experience in water and sanitation planning, design, and construction
Familiarity with surface water treatment and water distribution planning and design
Interpersonal, and communication skills and experience working with government officials, councils, regulating agencies, public stakeholders, private sector / businesses, contractors, consultants, NGOs
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
Good writing skills associated with technical reports and specifications
Must have successfully completed a degree in Civil Engineering
Must have at least 5-10 years experience
Experienced in the use of computer aided design / drafting software, including MicroStation and AutoCAD
Willing to learn and apply Arctic engineering principles and practices
Must have some MS Office skills
Must have strong people skills, and ability to work with a wide variety of staff and clients plus an ability to mentor and train more junior staff
Must have strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to multi-task is critical
Must be able to meet deadlines, well organized and able to work under pressure
Construction field experience is preferred
Any experience in the engineering, consulting or construction industry is preferred
